    Default Leaving boxee.. For now..

Unless anyone has any other ideas. I'm forced to leave boxee (even though I love it) for plex. Here's why. It's my understanding that boxee's underlying player only utilizes one core. This becomes a prob when trying to play 1080p content at high bitrates (at least on my proc it does). It stutters, falls out of sync, etc.. I read somewhere that plex will use both cores, so I gave it a shot. Sure enough, all the videos that had been giving me probs in boxee play perfectly in plex. I really hope there are plans in place for boxee to fully utilize my proc (2.16 c2d) so I can return to it- I really do enjoy boxee better overall.

If anyone has any suggestions I'll gladly try them.

    HOLY CRAP Batman !!!
Didn't know that was the reason!

I switched from Plex to Boxee cause I loved the easy library function (works much better then in Plex).
But for some reason some movies stutter (where others do not), I thought it was because my CPU was over heating (2.33ghz c2d).
Now I know its cause its only using one core !!!

Does Plex allow for advanced video calibration? That is the main reason why I use boxee...I have my Mac hooked up to my HDTV, but sadly it is an older TV, and the resolution is not perfect 720P or 1080P (1366 x 768 or something like that). When looking at my desktop, the screen is stretched, to the point the video aspect ratio is always wierd enough to not be watchable. Boxee has the ability to calibrate to your TV screen though, so now everything looks perfect! I tried XBMC and it's calibration feature, but sadly it does not work as well as boxee does (the video would not be stretched, but the menus looked stretched).

I guess the question to this long winded response is if Plex can be calibrated like boxee? If so, I may have to check it out. Although, I love boxee, and it's interface, and my video NEVER STUTTERS, even when playing back 1080P. The only reason I would switch is because of some nicer looking skins (instead of the boring interface of boxee). Thanks for any replies

I just registered at the Plex forums and searched for my question...turns out there is a video calibration setting. However, I fear that this will be a similar experinece to XBMC, where teh video runs great, but the menus and fanart, etc. will be stretched. Still, I'll install it and see how it runs

Yep I'm leaving for now too.
I love Boxee, but as it stands, it's not worth the trouble.

Apple TV- Hulu does not work at all now, BBC iPlayer does not work.

Windows- Hulu does not work, BBC iPlayer does not work. I now use 10' stand alone and web based Iplayer using a Wiimote.

Apple TV will be on Ebay and now have 2 windows HTPC. Boxee has lost its steam. Too bad.

    Default Leaving boxee.. For now..

Installed boxee from atvflash. Now that Hulu is not here (for now) there is alreadya new fixe - from an xbmc plugin/app.

But the ghow to specify to put the app in:
    Applications/boxee.app/contents/resources/boxee/plugins/video

Now, when I go in, the applications folder is empty for me.

Is there any way you can redirect me to the app folder if I installed throught atvflash ? (Seems to be different that is hwy I asked).

    I tried dropping it in:
    Library/application support/boxee/user data/apps but that did not worked ....

I'll have to go back and double check, but I don't think Plex's video calibration will stretch anything. I'm doing the same thing on my tv (compensating for overscan) and I haven't noticed any menus or art looking stretched.

I am using Plex, and I must say I'm really impressed. The video calibration is not perfect (I suspected) but it's good enough. It takes my favorite skin from XBMC, and adds the internet content of Boxee (plus more) - really liking the NBC plugin!

Hagfish, I appreciate the heads up for Plex, I had never heard of it before. I will still follow boxee, and it's progress (they are on the right path) but I may have to habg with plex for a bit too
