Default Accessing external hard drive connected to AirPort Extreme

Hi guys, sorry if this is a duplicate, but I am having a lot of trouble figuring this out.

I have boxee all set up and all that and have had it simply access my mac in the past. Just recently I bought a new router (AirPort Extreme) and hooked up my external hd directly into it. The Modem goes directly into the AirPort, which then goes into my Apple TV.

I cannot seem to access or even find the external hard drive attached to the router. I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Thanks

what format is the HD? What firmware are you using (extreme) ? Can you find the HD on another Mac?

The external HD attached to the Airport Extreme has to be either FAT32 format or native Mac OS file system. If it is a Windows NTFS formatted drive, it will not work. I learned this the hard way....

shouldnt be a problem if so, you can just reformat using disk utility.

i know a way that works for people,

but it requires a computer to be on to access content:

1) your hdd is connected to your airport extreme
2) use itunes on your computer to save the content on to the hdd, which it should be able to find if you are connected to your airport ( you may want to add the content to the hdd first with a firewire/usb cable, then holding alt(on a mac, not sure for pc) select all of the content on your hdd and drag it onto your itunes libary.
3) this content should now show up on your appletv

should work, anyone know a better way?

After the Airport disc is successfully attached to Airport Extreme (and configured for file sharing - check the Filesharing box under disks/filsharing...

1. Open Finder
2. Find the name of your Airport Extreme base station in sidebar and click on it
3. Click the Connect button that will appear in the sidebar
4. Enter password
5. Once connected, open Boxee, choose the name of your base station under "Devices"
6. Go to the folder that contains your movies; verify playback
7. In Boxee, add the folder in step 6. above as a source.

Let us know how this goes.

ALSO - After step 4, click System Preferences/Accounts, click the user account in question, click login items. Be sure to click on the + sign and add the Airport Extreme HDD as a login item. With that, Boxee will recognize this source automatically following each reboot or login.
