Thread: Boxee for Jaunty AMD 64 bit

  1. #1

Default Boxee for Jaunty AMD 64 bit

When I attempt to follow the instructions at http://app.boxee.tv/download/terms/ubuntu_jaunty to download Jaunty I get:

    Code:
Failed to fetch http://apt.boxee.tv/dists/jaunty/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
When's there gonna be a Jaunty AMD 64 bit version of Boxee in the repo?

Note: Following instructions on this board I managed to build a 64 bit version but I have various problems with it. I'm not sure if this is just in my alien build or not. If not, is there a way I can help package up what I have for the Jaunty repo?

There is not a 64bit build of Boxee for any version of Ubuntu. It'll be awhile, I think.
personal: boxee | twitter | boxee hq
boxee: boxee chat | boxee wiki | boxee plugins

i run boxee 0.9.20 on: ubuntu 9.10, windows xp sp3 (virtual machine), windows 7 and a neuros link hacked to all hell.

what super powers does a 'super mod' have? the 'super ban'... that, and laser vision.

Agent, did you miss this part of my post:

Just search on my username and you'll find many posts of my problems. Two simple ones: First the UpNP doesn't seem to work. My goal is to replace PlayOn and to hook up to Hulu. I've heard that this is possible but have yet to see it work. Simply put I do not see anything listed on my PS3 and I have turned on UpNP and started Boxee.

Another example, often videos play at double speed with no sound. Sometimes a video will play OK then in the middle will "break" and go to double time with no sound. Clicking on the Sound settings in Boxee always causes a segmentation violation. People here say that this is because of PulseAudio, that PusleAudio sucks and I should remove it. They don't tell me what I should use instead. From what I can tell there is ALSA and Esound, each with their own set of problems. Looking around the Ubuntu forums regarding PulseAudio and sound and it's a huge topic. The basic reccommendation there is that PulseAudio is here to stay and that you should not remove it.

So you see I'm between "rock" <- and -> "hard place" as they say. Since my goal is to replace PlayOn and that requires getting UpNP going and since I doubt that PulseAudio has anything to do with UpNP, yanking out PulseAudio doesn't seem like the thing to do.

If you have any suggestions I'm all ears...

I'm not sure if the features you want are even available in the official 32 bit builds. Last I checked, UPnP was still very experimental with Boxee, and while I haven't looked into it, I haven't heard of anyone using Boxee to forward Hulu like PlayOn does. You may want to try setting up the chroot'ed 32 bit environment and run an official Boxee that way and see if you're issues are resolved, but I doubt it.

It's the "I doubt it part" that worries me. I've been through a ton of "I doubt it's" in the last few months. I'm not sure if I can take anymore.

As for anybody else doing this krill328 claimed to be in this thread started by me where I explicitly asked precisely what I was trying to do. I've PM'ed krill328 a few times and he has yet to answer. I feel like I've been lead on to believe this is possible where it isn't. Hell; I haven't even managed to run Boxee without it screwing up and dying or not playing audio (and hangs, BTW)...

And still, really, how hard is it to do UpNP?!? There are many UpNP servers. The problem is they all assume you only want to scream local content. Hulu's (supposedly - I haven't see it - refer to my previous post) got the "stream from Internet" stuff down. Why not connect it to a backend of UpNP and viola! I mean I have MediaTomb running. Couldnt' that code be borrowed and bolted on?
