Great job guys! I haven't been able to do any school work since I installed this! Boxee has done so much above and beyond what I was expecting and being on the Apple TV is absolutely incredible!
I have thoughts and ideas but I don't want to spoil this comment by leaving them here. You guys are doing great and thanks so much for sharing, and sharing first with the Mac/Apple TV/Ubuntu community.
First off, for those of you that can't update, you have to go to the launcher, go to update, then click on the XBMC/Boxee launcher to update it first. Then it'll give you the option to install the latest Boxee build.
Second, Hulu seemed to work fine for me on a couple of Family Guy episodes, but they're just 4:3 content and not terribly intensive. I'll have to do further testing at another time.
The only real problem I'm having is that it seemed to just "miss" a good 40% of my music when I added the network source. XBMC sees it fine, as does my MBP. It's all stored on my desktop PC running Ubuntu 8.04. I, amusingly, can browse the share anytime and play what I want. It just won't show up in my library. Go figure. Any ideas there?
And now a suggestion/question. Given that Hulu and its ilk are flash-based, would it be possible to somehow use Flash 10? Apparently it offers quite a few speed improvements and uses the GPU for rendering as well. Is it even possible? It's available on all platforms, but I'm just not sure how you're implementing flash in Boxee. Just thought I'd throw it out there, though.
A great improvement guys thanks.
I find that the network facility is far more stable I am able to access my NAS very easily and see all the shares using smb on all my devices. Thanks for your good work.
1. I have three macs and two apple tvs. On the Macs Boxee is more stable but still tends to hang on exit on occasions and when it does not hang it is very slow to exit. When it hangs I have to do a hard power off...
2. Using the ATVs - the new layout is more pleasing but i get a problem if i have selected a video and play it and then look at the Boxee menu the video syncing goes crazy and I get lines across the display. (This does not happen on my Macs) I have tried a few options but cannot stop this happening. When I return to the video it is still in sync seems that the Boxee interface is not totally compatible with the video - not sure.
3. I cannot comment on Hula etc as I am not in the US YouTube Etc seems ok.
NB. I am not sure of the limitations of the ATV as when I access the same shares using a Sony PS3 the same movies (files) produce much sharper video and sound compared to when they are run on the ATV - I am specifically referring to .avi files.
Again thanks for the opportunity to experiment with Boxee as it does give the ATV a new lease of life. I will try some of the other features.
Good on yer.../Tony.
