I'm sure that a 64-bit version of Boxee must be in the works - is there any idea of when a 64-bit version will be released (particularly for Linux)??
Thanks!

If you hunt around here you can find instructions about how to build one yourself.
I have seen some bits about that, but I don't know if I'm up to that task - I don't know if I would be able to get it to compile - I hear it is quite difficult...
I have installed the 32 bit version on my 64 bit machine and it works well so far, but I'd like to have it running natively and have an easy method of upgrading it. I could see this getting really messy with each upgrade of boxee (in re-install with getlibs, etc, etc)....I'd like this HTPC I'm setting up to be completely running with managed packages for easy upgrades, etc...
Anyways, I'm just curious if there is any official 64-bit package in the works - which I suspect that there must be...so my question is more of when it'll be out![]()
theyve said before that they dont have the resources to develop a 64bit boxee. xbmc is doing it, and eventually itll probably make its way to boxee but i wouldnt hold my breath. the thread is out there somewhere where people have gotten it to work with a small script, use the forum search to find it. i havent tried it myself, as far as im concerned theres no need for it, 64 bit makes absolutely no difference in playing internet video.
~ Boxee on Ubuntu 10.04 ~
I did have to install a couple of dependencies but it ran relatively smoothly. You could always give it a try and if it doesn't work then nothing lost except for a few hours...
I have not be able to test this though as I'm stuck in the "9.04/64-bit/Jaunity doesn't like ATI Radeon 3200HD" hell such that I can't do any 3d accelerated stuff and Boxee just dies when I attempt to start it. If somebody could just tell me of a better video card to use I'd use it but nobody has put forth any suggestions.
Meantime I guess I could tar up my /opt/boxee directory and make it available to you. I'm not sure if that'd run but we could try...
Agreed and so would I. I've even asked the question, since I (and others) managed to build a 64-bit version, what was the difficulty in them building and distributing a 64-bit version. Hell I'll even help out but I'm not sure how I go from my build area to a package that can be used by Boxee.I have installed the 32 bit version on my 64 bit machine and it works well so far, but I'd like to have it running natively and have an easy method of upgrading it. hm...perhaps I will try to complile it myself then...probably won't have time until sometime next week though
So many people use 64-bit, I don't understand why they don't have a better/easier system to install on 64-bit machines...I could install a 32-bit version of xubuntu/ubuntu, but why waste half of my processor for other non-boxee tasks???
You should do this....if I can get it to build, I'd be willing to help however I can....even though the boxee would still be coded for 32 bits, to have a package for 64 bits that could taken from the repos in ubuntu or something would be so convenient...I'd help however I could as well. I'm also unfamiliar on how to create packages though.
+1 for a 64-bit debian package - is it really that much to maintain? I would wager that there would be oodles of people who would volunteer to be a package maintainer.
Increase adoption, don't force the droves of 64-bit users to build from source ourselves or jump through hoops to install the 32-bit package!
