Thread: 32 or 64 bit Ubuntu

Default 32 or 64 bit Ubuntu

My primary system uses Windows 7 64bit because I've got 4 gigs of RAM, but I'd like to try the Ubuntu system for a dual boot while testing before setting up a dedicated media PC for my TV and I see there's no preset 64bit version of Boxee available. Should I try installing the 32bit version of Ubuntu for testing Boxee, especially since I probably won't have more than 3 gigs RAM in that computer? I'd like to compare against the Windows version, which hopefully will be available soonish to mess with. So, time to learn Linux!

    In brief -

for trying out Boxee and only for that, should I install 32 bit or 64 bit Ubuntu? Thanks.

I'd suggest opting for 32 bit, it allows you to use the official packages and really you won't gain much from going 64 bit especially if you only care about Boxee.

That makes sense. Also, in the short term will there be much difference between Ubuntu and Windows versions? I expect in the long term they will all be fairly equal as far as performance and options are offered.
