Like Boxee, but giving up for Plex
I would rather use Boxee, but just can't get it to show my movies on an external drive.
I have searched forum for help but nothing helps.
I have changed the naming of the movies.
why is this so difficult?

Can you post some more information about your setup?
Can you see the drive before going into Boxee?
Can you browse to the drive if you go to /Volumes/driveName from within Boxee?
If you can, do you not see the folder structure?
If you do, can you select the files?
If you can, do they not open, open and stop, play with audio/video missing?
Do those same files play if stored locally?
Please provide as much detail as you can so that your issue can be resolved.
I'm using boxee on my mac and I can browse and play back content from any connected drive, whether it's internal, external or networked.

The situation is this: I want to keep the files on an external drive that I can transport between house and lake house. I want the movies especially to show when I go into the menu for Video->Movies, and I want it updated when I add movies. All I get is "No results found.......
This is extremely frustrating

Some other questions
Are you running Boxee on Ubuntu, Windows, MAC ?
I have all versions of Boxee running with my movies on an external drive.
I run NSLU2 network server and a 1 terrabyte hard drive with the movies.
If I can help you I will. The hardest one to get running on a share is Ubuntu because you have to install the samba server utilities so you can run the Samba client.
How is your drive formated ?
Please give me a rundown on your hardware and software and I will help you get it setup. I know that it works so we just need to figure out why yours does not.

I run both Plex and Boxee. I notice Boxee always loses track of my networked media. I always have to manually reconnect the network drive and then relaunch boxee. That's a real pain with a HTPC setup.
I'm running a mac connected to a Netgear ReadyNAS for storage.
Plex seems to do a better job remembering the network settings, but sometimes it must also be manually reconnected to the share.
BUT, Boxee takes time to reindex all the data. So when I want to browse my media or show Boxee off I can't because it always loses it's connection and then takes 10 minutes after manually connecting to show any media. Frustrating.
