Help - Aspect ratio - everything is squished

Sorry if I'm being hopelessly newb here. Long time user of XBMC and MS Media Center. New user to Apple TV.

I installed Boxee hoping it would be the answer to my issue of playing non Apple codec files. Well that it now does, but everything... every single video I play is squished from it's normal aspect ratio.

So something like 5th Element which is 2.35:1 is even more squished when viewing through Boxee. A video that would normally fill my Panasonic 42" plasma will no be squished down so there are black bars at the top and bottom.

Is there some global setting I'm overlooking? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I'd love to use Boxee but not with all my videos being squished to un-natural dimensions.

check out this thread also while playing the video you can select settings >video and from here change the view...

I appreciate the quick reply. I'm not sure that thread is valid for me though. I have a widescreen TV and when watching videos via Apple TV My Movies or TV Shows, etc. everything looks as it should.

I should have mentioned something that I just noticed. When viewing Boxee menus all the cover art, my avatar picture, etc it's all being distorted.

From the main menu I click on settings and nothing happens. From the video menu I click on settings and nothing happens. While playing a video I can click on settings and while I do get video options I have no clue which I am supposed to change to view the video in its normal resolution.

Unfortunately this bug makes Boxee virtually unusable though I would really really like to. I could provide pics of it if that would help demonstrate the depth of the issue.

Again, viewing through Apple TV everything looks peachy on the exact same videos.

Hello! I had the same problem. While the video is playing if you click the Play/Pause button on the Apple Remote, it will bring up the navigation menu and you can go up and over to Settings and then under Video to fiddle with the aspect ratio among other things.

Also, at the bottom of the Video settings, you can "Set as Default" to set whatever works for you as your default settings, so it should help all your videos look just right without having to constantly mess with it!

Great job Boxee team, this is a dream come true for me & my AppleTV!
