Default Why the lean towards ATV?

its been bothering me since may.25 that the ATV has boxee favortisim. I read about quite a few complaints/problems with it here, but i feel its an under-powered closed platform that not too many people have access to. I understand you are working towards your own hardware, so why is most of the devlopment done first on OSX? Its not as if any tv-box will be running OSX, are you leaning towards running a BSD variant on your hardware? It just dosent make any sense to me, seeing as 90% of tv-box run a bare linux. With that said wouldnt it be easier to work on the linux code first then see what you can get to work on ATV? It just seems like an easier approach to me, but what the hell do I know. So ya any info would be a great peace of mind. Thanks guys and keep up the good work!

AppleTV = $229 with hdmi, optical out, component, wireless (including N), no fans, no noise, small physical footprint, small power consumption, handy remote.

And boxee is probably filled with Apple users.

My ATV fits in my entertainment center on top of other components next to my Wii. It outputs full Dolby Digital and DTS. It's plenty fast for DVD rips, music, etc. It's a wonderful little device if you stay within it's limitations.

an atv and iphone doesnt make me much of a mac fan but the atv is a simple and nice setup, so really for a bit over $200, why not!

I'm actually more of a Linux fanboy... and ironically a dev (just not for boxee).

I agree with you. IMHO the ATV is way to underpowered to run anything above 720p (though some will differ) and who wants a crappy picture on there beautiuful HDTV?

im sure you can come up with the reasoning yourself... atv is a nice all in one unit that boxee runs off rather nicely.. the lack of 1080i/p support is unfortunate, but from pricepoint it's far easier to design for this system than others!

as for the mac/linux/windows variants, boxee is great for a home theatre system, and because of this A) a desktop is usually just too big and cumbersome to put in a ht setup and B) a laptop that handles 1080p wont be cheap...

Sooooooo to apeal to the mass market, boxee puts their free software on an inexpensive machine to do the average user just fine!

(all in my opinion, make me feel stupid if you wish..)

Or maybe boxee wants to be bought by apple?
Would love seeing what that can produce
