I have to disagree on this, I don't see the point in having more than one media player embedded in boxee. While I understand the frustration of poor performance at the moment, I still think the devs need to fix the issues and not focus on adding another layer.

BTW, I would be really curious to see the how well an external player would run with boxee running at the same time, considering how much boxee takes in terms of resources. You can actually do that using Fuzz's launcher! You can try: add vlc to Fuzz's launcher, launch it, open a video file and try to watch.

Just remember that there is boxee box coming out by the end of the year, so I am almost sure things will be fixed real soon

    Cheers,

Boxee shouldn't be embedding more than one video player. Rather it could offer the option of calling an external video player.

Regarding performance, that's a seperate argument. I run Boxee on a 2nd monitor all the time without problems.

Off topic, but how are you exactly doing that? I'm having trouble trying to set it to one screen, since I use my tv as a secondary monitor with an s-video cable sometimes, especially when I'm trying to test movie quality before burning.

On topic though, it would be awesome if some of VLC's abilities were added to boxee, some of the ps3 formatted rips don't play right on Boxee, and its a waste of space to have one copy for Boxee and one for my Ps3

I don't think it really is the same thing. I too can get my video on my external player but cannot run vlc from within boxee without having issues.

I actually run Boxee on my primary because there are performance problems running it full screen on secondary monitor, but I use 2 LCDs.

How do you currently run VLC within Boxee?

I am running Boxee as well as VLC and FrontRow on my MacMini, connected to a HD-TV.

I would prefer to use only 1 user interface instead of 3, but:
    - FrontRow does not recognize all video-formats, but it's very well integrated with OS Snow Leopard
    - Boxee is my preference but some resolutions are not the same as VLC
    - VLC is not a nice interface as a front-end

It would indeed be a very good idea to have the possibility to configure Boxee to enable a player of choice, and for the moment, I think VLC is the best player.

PS: I use RowMote on my iPhone as the universal remote to control all of these applications - check it out!

    Enjoy Boxee!

Like many others, I too am having problems getting media to play properly in boxee; it plays in vlc or media player perfectly.

As far as embedding codec, I don't see why you would need to do that, just have boxee have the ability to be a launcher for those apps, still using boxee to have cover art / meta data / etc, but after selecting the movie, select to play in an external player.

I understand time frames are something that is not given out on fixes, but as many requests as there have been for this lately (not just from me :P ) I would to hear something.

Setting boxee up worked like a charm, but now I have to drop out of it to play any of my 720p or 1080p content and play through another player....huge PITA. I tried setting up another front end like Media Portal, but it's just not as simple.
