    Default mplayer or vlc alternative.

I've found that the inbuilt media player has a lot of trouble playing my video files. All video content I have on my machine, which is running ubuntu 8.10 btw, plays without a glitch on vlc or mplayer.

I'd say that almost 90 % of the time in Boxee, the video playback is choppy, or jumps a couple of frames every 3-4 seconds, or something is off with the audio sync..

As far as I can see on the forums, the inbuilt media player works just fine for a lot of people, but I'm not that lucky.

I really love everything else about Boxee, but since the inbuilt media player has this much trouble, how about adding support for other known and working alternatives?

    +1 On this.

Would be nice if we could configure Boxee to use mplayer, xine, vlc, or other alternative players that we know work. Having to switch back and forth between myth and boxee or go to a terminal to use mplayer to play different video formats is a pita.

Just found out if you mux mp4 files with some subtitles in Yamb!, the inbuilt media player also can't show the subtitles. Apparently it does not support 3gpp subtitles in media files.

If we had the option to use vlc player, that would not be a problem at all

I remember Meedio used to let you choose what type of player (internal or external) to use with each type of media. This would be an awesome feature for Boxee. I don't need VLC as Boxee works for me but I would much prefer to use Zoom Player for DVD's for example. Give people choice, nobody ever complained about that

I too would either like to see the native Boxee player app get beefed up or send the files to an external player. Currently, my videos are dropping frames, have a choppy screen, or have sub-par rendering. Compared to VLC Media player, Boxee is definitely lagging.

I second option to have the option of running an external media player. VLC seems like a good choice since it's cross platform and still in active development.

My Android app Gmote works great with controlling VLC.

    Thumbs up

I second the motion as well.

Even if the existing playback issues are fixed in Boxee, it would be nice to have the option of using an alternative player of choice.
