    Default Few questions

Fist let me start off by saying this app looks awesome.

I have 3 AppleTv's in my house and a Central Computer in my office that hosts my movies.

Fist question after i install boxee will i be able to update the Appletv as normal
ie if a update comes out next week will i be able to update normally. and if so will boxee be erased? or just cease to work? or work as normal?

Second question i have a little over 700g's of Mp4 movies i have been putting togeather with meta tags images etc.. with metax
they sit in my itunes in my office will boxee see them just like appletv sees them or will i have to change the way i do things?

Thanks just looking for all the facts before i install it on the apple tv.

oo yha is there a way to uninstall it back to factory if something goes wrong?

Thanks and we're glad you like our UI. You're going to love it if you have spent time completing your meta data around your existing media.

Apple TV update 2.2 requires a re-install of boxee via the Patchstick. What happens in the future is outside of our knowledge, but we update ours and post the changes & updates here quickly.

The meta that you create is no longer necessary. If you name the folder or .DIVX, MP4, etc file with movie title or TV episode and number, we build the meta for you. This should save you a lot of time.

So boxee visualizes the media better and fills in details for you, in a much more robust way than iTunes ever would.

You can always factory reset the ATV and wipe out the XBMC / boxee install and Patchstick boot loader.

    Ok so about the media.
Fist i like having one standard with my media. and feel mp4 h264 is the best
and relay not to much work in my optionion

any how so from what i am reading and what your saying.
Boxee does not use itunes for its media streaming
You have to setup SMB because it doesn't support AFP and have media in specific folders.

So in essence if you want to use normal ATV and boxee you need files in two places?

Well the software looks sweet but i am not to keen on having another service runing just for this and changing the way my work flow is for movies.

Now boxee will take a movie.mp4 and get the meta data but will it save it to the mp4 how does that work?

I would hate to see ATV do something that stops Boxee from runing and have hundreds of movies with no meta tags

    You software is awsome.
But i see it more for PS3 which i have or a xbox360
    somthing that has movies local
ATV is more about streaming media and remote management

while boxee will play an ungodly number of formats, there's nothing about it that will stop you from using mp4. in regards to the 'work' i think dave was talking about manually adding the metadata.

correct, boxee only supports smb, at the moment.
i'm not quite sure about the 'two places' issue... all you would have to do is share the same folders that are already shared with apf, using smb. i guess you could consider them 'shared' twice. also, there's no reason you have to continue using apf.

Now boxee will take a movie.mp4 and get the meta data but will it save it to the mp4 how does that work?
no, boxee will not save the metadata back to the movie. boxee searches places like imdb for movies, and last.fm for music... when it reconizes your media, it saves that metadata to it's internal database.

actually, that's what boxee is pretty good with streaming... remember, xbmc started as a hack for a device that has a 4gb hdd.
as for management, boxee doesn't really need much... it sees Hancock.mp4, finds all the info, and adds it to your library.

i hope this answers some of your questions.
personal: boxee | twitter | boxee hq
boxee: boxee chat | boxee wiki | boxee plugins

i run boxee 0.9.20 on: ubuntu 9.10, windows xp sp3 (virtual machine), windows 7 and a neuros link hacked to all hell.

what super powers does a 'super mod' have? the 'super ban'... that, and laser vision.

yha guess what i am getting at is if i do not put the media data in there.
And later on Boxee get locked out of ATV then i stuck with lots of movies with no tags.

So there is a boxee data base that the media tags are being saved to so its not constantly looking it up.

I guess i will just keep taging my way and use boxee also.

as for two different places i was under the assumption the folder had to be named something specific. which i see is not true now.

But yha i have my movies on an external drive and have itunes pointing to that drive so all i would have to do is enable smb and share that folder.
Just thought i would be more main streamed with ATV and use itunes for movie library.

All and all awesome program plan to install it this weekend.
Just no time during the week lol..

    Thanks alot for the info.
