compiling on gentoo

I've successfully compiled and run on gentoo with a few small hacks, but I can't get anything past the login screen. I've gone through all the errors in xbmc.log and tried to resolve as many as possible. The main one I haven't been able to find a fix for is rssfeeds.xml. I created a simple file with "<rssfeeds></rssfeeds>" that shuts up the error message but I don't know what else to fill in (or if this is even the problem).

Any help would be appreciated... for example, I'd like to know what version numbers of the dependencies people have gotten to work.

I can attach logs if someone wants, but as I said earlier, I've gotten most of the major errors...

I had compiled with gcc-4.3.1 previously, and thought that was the problem, so I recompiled with gcc-4.1.2, but no luck there either.

I'm curious which package versions ubuntu installs, since I'm running the newest of a lot of packages, they probably aren't as stable. Here's what I have installed:

doesn't matter to me, but the newest is probably easiest for me to install in gentoo.

you can search ubuntu's installed packages here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/
make sure you look at hardy-updates, if there is an updated package version, as boxee runs w/o issue on hardy fully updated.

i have a feeling that this may be the issue, as boxee does not run correctly on intrepid.

if you do find the culprit, please post back to help the boxee team insure future combatibilty with intrepid and gentoo.

Well, the README.linux file has a pretty complete list of the packages and versions needed. It's a long one too! Just remember, the README and 'make install' are for XBMC not boxee. See my post here for some things I've tried on openSUSE:

although I'll admit to pretty much having given up on it. Too many binary-only (ie, closed source) packages to get it to work on any but the most narrow of Linux platforms. You have to grab the binary package from a working Ubuntu install (as the source tarball has old versions), or from my web site. And then you need to create a staging area with all the pieces (again, documented on my blog). I found it easier to just install Ubuntu on a spare partition. I might try to see about getting a USB stick for it.
