black screen during video playback or worse..

Everything seems to be working fine......except whenever I play one of my local videos, I run into problems. My movies seem to play, but all I get is a black screen. There is audio and the timer and controls come up, but no video. My TV shows act like they are going to play, but just go back to the library screen. Any ideas? I have the latest windows alpha on Vista.

(I did search, but couldn't find anything that seemed to pertain to this)

Similars issue with video playback. I am running boxee on xp sp3 and have had problems with video playback on backed up .vob files. Some will playback video with no sound, others will just crash boxee. This morning i played back 2 dvd directories. The one that crashed boxee was the feature film complete with menus, while the other one was the bonus disc w/o menus. I don't know if that matters. Also, both video files originated from a mapped network drive (not one of the ones that boxee doesn't like

p.s. my files were .avi files. I have a couple of files that are, I think you would call them dvd images, backups of a dvd I have. They seem to play fine. My problems seem to be with avi's.

Ummm, I guess I'll try and just delete my library and try again.

where the files converted from another format ? Are all formats working..

I have had this exact problem ever since updating to the new version of Boxee. I'm on osx and local video with the avi wrapper (doesn't seem to affect any certain codec) just plays audio with a black screen. It's the weirdest thing.

I'm having the same issue. I'm running the latest version of boxee on os x 10.5. I was playing a movie in .mp4 format, and another one in .mov from apple trailers. Both of those videos start and the audio plays but no video. The menu also shows an option to change visualization settings like it does for audio files.

In the same local folder as the .mp4 file I have another movie encoded in the same way. It plays just fine.

I also have xmbc and both videos play fine.

This window version is a little behind the mac version so certain formats might experience problems ..we will be releasing a new version mid june which should solve the issue(especially if it works on xbmc)

Hello, looks like the last post is from March'09. Well, its Jan'10 and i have just tried accessing the local avi videos and getting blank/black screen with working sound, working playback/volume controls.

i'm running win7 32-bit and trying to play local and networked videos. neither seem to work.

boxee version: Beta 0.9.20.10261

is this still a known issue or do you want some logging?

thanks for your help and great work on boxee so far. look and feel is awesome. functionality is great! thanks for all your work.
