    Default Which Linux

The different version of linuxs use package managers.

Ubuntu and Debian derivatives use apt-get

Mandriva and Redhat use rpm managers.

if you are using ubuntu to run boxee then the command for your package would be:

    sudo apt-get install apache...............

sudo tells the system to run the package program with system admin
    privileges.

apt-get is the name of the package manager program

install tells the apt-get package manager program to install the software

apache...... is the name of the program you want to install.

they system will come back and ask you for the password on the system. This is the one you created when you installed the linux.

NOTE: you can type the first few characters of the file name and then hit the tab key and the system will finish typing the file name for you.

What Linux operating system is best for a home audio and video recording system? Me and my friends are starting a band from scratch. We are building a computer from scratch and using a Linux Operating system to power it, but which distribution is the best for audio and video recording for a band?

This definitely isn't the best forum to get advice on this subject, but one of my coworkers is a published musician and is a major fan of Ubuntu Studio (although stick with the 8.04 release as it supports a low latency kernel). I should probably note my coworker is a senior Unix sysadmin, and is likewise very familiar with Unix and can pick up Linux quickly. If you're completely unfamiliar with *nix, then using it for complex functions like audio/video composition may not be the best choice.

Heh, yeah, definetly not the best place for asking about random linux stuff. I'd personally go to the ubuntu forums for something like that, but I can give you a nudge in the right direction at least. Personally, for audio recording, i'd suggest Ubuntu Studio. For audio mixing, there are plenty of USB audio mixers for under $300. And for video, well, probably the best kind to get would be a camera with solid state memory, or a hard drive in it.

Please note that this is purely SPAM. In a very nasty way:

They ask 'random' questions, kinda related to the forum topic.
Language isn;t that good (mostly). Nature of question mostly gives more feedback, thus google c.s. think the question is more valuable, thus spam will work.

    Which spam?! Check the signature...

Same for the answer above (random link), and 'invisible' signatures.

And many, many more (like the daily DVD ripping software post)

PLEASE boxee, add the anti-spam mod to disallow ppl from polacing links in their message & signature for the first X posts.
