That won't happen, so get your desired device and head to xbmchub.com and enjoy XBMC !

It should be open but they say their contracts with netflix and what not keep them from doing it, personally I say drop them and open it up so it will be use full. I have all the apps I want built into my tv, I could care less about the apps on boxee box

It was promised to be open, but that promise is broken, and that won't change.
May not be their choice in the end, who knows?
Unfortunately internet polls are meaningless numerically and in effect.

Obviously everyone wants that to happen, but it never will. If they've already poo poo-ed the idea of removing our reliance on boxee servers for identification for their final firmware update, the chances of them opening up the entire box is somewhere off in cloud cuckoo land.

What they need to do is open up file identification to 3rd party plugs ins. That's the obvious solution. They can't legally produce a version of the firmware to scan the iMDB directly, so let other rapscallions do it for them. That way everyone's happy. The box stays closed, keeping premium content providers happy, boxee can shut down their servers and the imdb can't bitch about it.

Let's be honest, boxee will shut down for good within the first half of the year. Their new boxee tv is a bad solution to a non-existant problem, and unless the identification issue is resolved before them, we're all going to be left with useless post-modern sculptures sitting next to our TVs.

It would be a smart move to make it opensource.
More people would get a new boxee box, they make themselves popular by the people who already have a boxee box, so a better name (and people in the US get a boxee tv faster because of the good name).

No, since I use my Boxee Boxes for pay content like Netflix and Vudu, which will definitely be unsupported if its open-sourced.

Why? This is a lame excuse on Boxee's part in my opinion. Sure content providers need to make sure there content is protected but no one is going to use Boxee to steal content, we just want XBMC so we can get more life out of our boxes and finally get what was promised to us. If any platform is used by hackers to steal content from Netflix etc it will be on a much bigger and OPEN platform such as ANDROID.

Android is completely hacker friendly and you can do anything you want with the AOSP code such as CM, AOKP. They are all community based firmware off of Google's code yet you can still watch Netflix or listen to Spodify. If Android can have custom firmware and still have premium content so can Boxee, its just Boxee is doing what they do best by "Blaming the Other Guy" so to speak.
