    i am debating if the processor upgrade is worth the extra $150

    * 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    * 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo [Add $150.00]

    Do you think the extra 10% will make a difference for 1080p processing?

    Also, 2gb vs 4gb... worth the upgrade cost? (or even 1gb...)

    Would love to hear your thoughts...

    Thanks!

    I would think the 2.0ghz would be sufficient. I haven't been having problems with the current 1.85 ghz model.

    I’ll be upgrading as soon as possible because my current Core Duo Mini stutters from time to time when playing back 720p video. Even the base new model should solve that.

    I have the last-gen model with 1GB RAM, and I have no problems whatsoever on Apple's 720p trailers.

    Re: the topic, I think a last-gen model, which will be SO much cheaper now, is a better bet. boxee is for DVDs and 720p at best, which runs perfectly. I'd want the new MacMinis for Blu-Ray, but Apple hasn't deemed that technology worthy yet, so I can wait.

    Generally, people always over-estimate HTPC needs. A 2 or 3 year old dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM can run everything up to and including DVD content, plus a bit more. Think about it: consumer DVD players barely have any RAM at all!

    What about hooking it up to latest HDTV - do I just use DVI-HDMI connector? BIt confused - I've been waiting for this release for a couple of months now, but I can't figure out now which one to get.

    Besides processor, what about RAM - is 1GB enough for Boxee related stuff?

    (Never mind - I found this post later on in the forum - 1GB seems plenty for now)

    You need a DVI >> HDMI cable for the old Mini; I guess a Mini-DVI to DVI to HDMI setup is required for the new ones!

    Since there is no blu-ray support on this new Mini, I see no reason to upgrade. I have the previous generation with 2.0 Ghz, Core 2 Duo Processor, and 1 GB of Ram. It plays back everything I throw at it perfectly, including all 720P and 1080P content (the only 1080P I have tried has come from Apple Trailers).

    As far as the Nvidia chips, I don't care about that. The picture quality is gorgeous, and I feel the new chip won't do much more.
