    Smile Restore Hulu Plus some...

I just stumbled across and episode of CnetTV that made mention of an alternative to HULU for Boxee users. I'll let you judge for yourself, so far it's not too bad and seems to cover a lot shows.

I figured I'd share the info, Let everyone know what you think. I'm really hoping this turns out to be a good alternative...

    Here's the link: http://thejakemarsh.com/1808/

This applies to all Flavors of Boxee.

    NOTE:

I must warn you that after playing with this for a while I just now realizing that not all of the links are reliable. They seem to come from various/questionable sources some better than others. But your experience may be better. Post to let everyone know if you think is worth it or not...

I clicked on the link, and my Avast Ant-Virus blacked a Virus/Worm from the site...I don't know if it's a false positive or what, but Avast is usually really good at detecting the real deal.

I am pretty sure the instructions from lifehacker no longer work. This was the hack that worked two days after Hulu was pulled but Hulu quickly patched the hole.

As for Jake Marsh's, I've used both his RSS solution and his application. The application has a very nice interface but a lot of things do not work in it. It is very alpha which he freely admits. While it does have a lot of content, it is content that usually is very low quality and has foreign language subs (if it will even play). In my opinion, this isn't even watchable on a big screen TV and isn't a Hulu alternative (sorry Jake).

As for the virus warning, Trend Micro is also showing a HTML_IFrame virus warning when you visit his website. This wasn't happening before so I'm betting it has to do with how he included the CNet TV story. I still believe his content is safe, the warning is just about some issues on his website but it is something to keep in mind.

After trying out several different "Hulu Alternatives", I've come to the decision that if the application or plugin just pulls video that has been uploaded to the web from "questionable sources", I have no interest in it. TVRSS.net (for bittorrent) is a much much better alternative if Hulu has no interest in being on Boxee.

On a side-note, there is a way to get Hulu back in Boxee that the XMBC guys are working on, but it is not a very easy setup and can require a lot of extra software to be installed in Linux and it is personally not worth my time to get figured out at this point. Just hang-tight guys, I'm sure a better and easier solution will get figured out, just give it some time.

Hey guys, I'm Jake, the guy behind "TV Library" - I wanted to respond about the Anti-Virus warning junk some of you are reporting. The plain and simple version is my website was unfortunately hacked. I'm still researching how it happened and I've taken all necessary precautions to prevent it happening again, but it looks like there may be some residuals stuff floating around from that.

I apologize to you guys who went to my site and were a little taken aback by the Virus warnings. I can promise there is nothing malicious on my site, and the only thing the hackers even did was try to inject this iframe code that would redirect the visitor to a different site, and it wasn't even successful in doing so. Anyways, I think all is good now and I'm loving reading you guy's thoughts on my plugin/feed.

It's getting better and better the more I tinker with it and even though it might not be a perfect "Hulu Replacement" for everyone, I think it definitely does offer some value to a lot of the boxee community.

Please keep the suggestions coming and for those who have no idea what I'm talking about you can read more about my plugin here: http://thejakemarsh.com/1808/

I used the instructions from Lifehacker and hulu still works just fine for me. It actually works better and is more comprehensive than the original hulu plugin.

Default I'm have a hard time believing it..

Considering your the only person claiming the Hulu plugin is still working sounds a bit questionable to me! I've read through the post on LifeHacker and your post was the last and only one claiming "I''m still working".....

I don't think there are that many lost souls that someone else can't have the same experience....

Maybe your computer is blessed or something!!! Or maybe its possessed..Yea that's it that's the ticket.....

From my own experience, the Plugin shows all the Hulu content, but doesn't actually play it. This was a very 'dirty' patch and a more full proof solution is on the way. But honestly, I would just wish the content providers for Hulu would allow us to stop playing this game to see their content on our TV's with an official plugin.

The only think I can think of that is going on here is that they have signed a contract with some third party to officially carry their content, like maybe an official version of Hulu for Apple TV, Tivo, or some other box.
