Thread: Boxee / Dlink Got me Good!

Default Boxee / Dlink Got me Good!

I have to admit, i've been one of the few to have no problems with my boxee for 1.5yrs. Until the last three weeks in which the box shut down / reset / did not load back up...

The box will not reset gives me error 0x3 something... not there now, but if I don't go to the recovery menu the box just flashes orange / red... all I did was try to watch a movie...

Moving on to greener pastures, gonna put her up until I can load something useful on it..

    thanks for the hearbreak.

Before trying to get into recovery mode again, turn off the box, remove the power cord for about 15s, reconnect power and then try recovery mode again...

    Alright guys / gals

I finally got my box back working.. I had to format a usb to fat and put only boxee.iso on it.. For some reason, it wouldn't update with any other files on it. Hoepfully whatever has caused this issue to happen to me twice will be resolved with any new firmware..

    thanks,

Just to clarify, that's pretty much required when installing from USB. I'll see if I can't get the support page updated to reflect this.

I don't recall having issues with other stuff on the USB drive. As long as the boxee.iso file was in the root directory, the firmware would install.
Although it has been a very long time since I've installed a Boxee Box firmware.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here but I keep searching the forum and the web for any way to fix a box that has the red flashing logo. I've tried ALL of the suggested fixes, restores and firmware from USB.

There is nothing gets me to the restore menu. I'm ready to take it apart and rebuild the circuit board (I am handy at this), replace some caps or anything to make it work but i need some direction and I won't buy another box after this and reading about all the other boxes that did this and were out of warranty as mine is.

Sorry, I am just hoping someone has other ideas other than the ones on the forum. Yes, I emailed Marcel and he said it was impossible to fix. It's just hard to accept that it can't be fixed.

Wouldn't spending $89 on a close-to-new unit be easier than fixing one with some kind of serious electrical glitch? Seriously, your time has got to be worth more than that.

I see a few being auctioned off. Going price seems to be about $60 for a used unit.

Its not the money. I have another Boxee Box and two HTPC's running Boxee (both units locked in time when the PC Boxee played well with flash and other things).

I enjoy the challenge to repair an item and it's more of a hobby, but I do rely on the web for info. I did try to buy a few on ebay but decided to keep trying with mine (the challenge!). Obviously an uphill battle.
