No one else has ever had so many issues in turning their box on and off as you have posted.

The box does power off, I do it every day, sometimes even twice a day. I never use sleep mode.

When you turn ON the box using the power button on the box, don't hold it down more than a second or two or yes, you will start the box up with the reset menu.

Somehow, you have managed to make this really difficult when it is not

Practice using the power button on the box a few more times to turn the box off and on properly and then repair the remote. It should then work fine to power on the box assuming you're using the menu/back button.

Which doesn't mean it's not defective. It happens.

I guess all the refurbished ones for sale should have told me something.

sleep mode tends to not work all that great

also if you are a brand new box owner and you have set it up to scan a bunch of new sources that can affect the shutdown behavior of the box while it is scanning sources. This is a known bug/limitation/whatever.

But as Darci pointed out, you should be able to easily power it down by pressing and holding the power button for several seconds until the logo on the boxee turns off. As for power it up, using the menu button definitely works.

If you are sure you doing everything that Darci or I have described you should check to make sure you don't have a problem with your remote pairing and repair it:

If it still won't power up while it is turned off (not sleep) using the remote's Menu button (not the netflix/play-pause, but the Menu button), I'd try performing a factory reset....if that still doesn't work, you might be unlucky enough to have a defective unit.

Sadly, that happens from time-to-time when buying electronic devices.

And if, after double-checking yours and Darci's suggestions, I'd say it's time for 1jckinnick to request an RMA (if his BBox is still within the 1 year warranty period)

When it's yellow that means it's in the factory reset menu screen/mode or it doesn't have an internet connection.

The third link below is where all the documentation is available. Searching the documentation on yellow brings up this page: http://support.boxee.tv/entries/2073...and-indicators
