I don't know what to tell you. The boxee browser is horrible. With a potential new device around the corner (Boxee 2) I would try and wait or buy a used boxee.

The WDTV live you can get referb for $75. I would go this route until something better comes out.

Ever heard of the ZBox mini computer. Try it and free yourselves from being dependent on any particular software company. Run whatever you want on it, has a small footprint, install whatever operating system you want and best of all you will have the option to run xbmc on it. The Boxee Box was a good idea once, it isn't anymore. The little extra cost is well worth it.

Just be aware that, even after spending the extra money and time to get a home theater pc up and running smoothly, you still may not have a complete solution for both local media and online streaming. HTPCs may be ideal for playing local media but they do have a number of limitations when it comes to the online services. Many of the pay services only offer the highest quality video/audio streams to the dedicated streaming devices; people who use those services to stream to their HTPCs have to settle for lower quality and, in some cases, won't be able to get high definition video or digital surround sound at all. Some services, such as HULU+ are ONLY available for the dedicated streaming devices.

There's really no single perfect solution. The Boxee Box is a bit of a Jack of All Trades, Master of None with a pretty questionable future. HTPCs can be awesome for local playback but really need to be coupled with an online streamer if you want the best of both worlds.

I don't think you're mad. I really think we'll see a new firmware shortly which will include recording via the new USB dongle via cloudee.

This will allow you to watch movies and pause and start streaming them on your ipad in another room or another boxee or computer.... I really think will see this soon.

The only problem is that the USB dongle device only picks up QAM and everything is going the encrypted route. Boxee has only negotiated with Comcast. Boxee needs to line up the Canadian companies too.

I'm guessing your in the UK? Another thing to bear in mind is all we have "catch up" wise is iPlayer, no sign of anything else. I'm sure the WD's will have more.

However, as a media player, mine has been faultless, love the interface, navi-x is a bonus I've recently purchased a Samsung Smart TV for all my catch up stuff but the DLNA media center on that is terrible, I was hoping to ditch the Boxee. Samsung need to team up with Boxee

If you can afford it, buy this http://www.pulse-eight.com/store/pro...heatre-pc.aspx
    You won't be sorry
My boxee box sucks! I barely use it since I got the pulsebox. Turned my boxee box on today. Ran a scan and 12 hours later (I'm not kidding), after a number of crashes it is still not finished. Yes it's updated to the latest version.
The pulsebox scans all my files within about 10 minutes and never crashes.

If you're going the HTPC you can do it on a Acer Revo cheaper than that, really simple to install

Pre-orders won't ship until April at the earliest and I would expect delays just like about every other hardware launch seems to have these days
