Default Advice needed for silver surfer

First of all apologies if this post is in the wrong section, (so many to choose from)
and this is my 1st post.

I,m thinking of buying a Boxee box for use with my multimedia setup here in Malta,
at present I have various media streamers set up in three rooms, all of which can
access my Nas storage via homeplugs with no problems, plus in the living room I
have a media PC connected into the system to allow my wife to view UK TV,
for example BBC's Iplayer, ITVplayer and Filmon, using commercially purchased
software to allocate a UK IP address for TV viewing.

I have been looking at removing the Media PC from the equation by using either
a Boxee Box or a Roku XS and I was wondering if it is possible replace the PC with
the Boxee Box and if so can software be used on the Boxee as with the Media PC
setup to allocate UK IP addressing, if so would really appreciate recommendations
of best software and a walk through guide on how to achieve this.

Hope I have made sense and that someone can point me in the right direction and
advise me if this is possible

Boxee has a built-in VPN client that uses the PPTP protocol. I assume this is what you are talking about. It does not support other VPN protocols though (IPSec L2p openvpn, etc...). It is easily accessible through the UI.

You can use the VPN or the unblock-us.com type services.. That side of the question your going to be ok.

However the iPlayer app is (my understanding) no where near as good as the iplayer page, and the iPlayer desktop features with the series download and watch later etc are not going to be there.

Appreciate the replies, but to be honest I don't really understand the answers,
VPN, protocols and DNS are a foreign language to this old man, so I suppose
what would be ideal for me is if anyone else has set up the Boxee to access UK
TV content as I would like to do, if so could they provide me with a dummies
step by step guide, or point me to a link that may provide me with the info.
    I require.

Find a VPN provider (such as Strong VPN, Overplay, etc) and pay for their service.
The VPN provider will provide you with the IP addresses you need.
Go to Settings>>Network and enter the VPN settings you got from your chosen provider.

Alternatively, go to http://unblock-us.com/, pay for their service and follow their instructions for the Boxee Box.

OverPlay VPN accounts provide the ability to use either VPN or DNS (both included, and with support for far more sites than the other provider that you mentioned). https://www.overplay.net/blog/smartdns-on-boxeebox
