Thumbs down Boxee Box BSOD however will not Factory reset

My boxee box was working fine then one day turned on and it had reset back to factory defaults. I then tried to setup and use on network. It crashed as soon as i accessed a video file so tuned off and back on.

Since then hdmi initialises when I turn on either from remote or button on top but nothing happens. no boot no nothing.

Holding power down fro 5-8 seconds will not reset it. (logo stays green)
    Any suggestions?

I cant get it to go into yellow logo. It only stays green. It will turn on with remote but only green logo even if I hold power button for any length of time. All I get is Black Screen Of Death. (tried other hdmi tv's)

are there any other ways to force update or reset it?

No...I contacted Marcel, and he asked if I could enter the recovery mode <no>; completed a RMA with D-Link. They have you try the same things that I did. I didn't bother trying again, just said "yes, still a black screen".

btw, technically I couldn't get to recovery mode because of the black screen <TV does detect an HDMI input>, and just had a yellow logo.

Are you holding down the button on the remote or on the box when you try to enter recovery mode? Only the button on the box will allow you to enter recovery mode (hold it down for about 8 seconds and the release it).
Also, try unplugging the television as well (disconnect from mains power and from the box) and plugging it back in.
I found this this resolved an issue I had once with my box.

One thing ive noticed is that if the boxee box is off. if you hold the button down it does not turn on until you let go of the button no matter how long you hold it down for is this normal.

Also if the box is on you can only hold the button down for 5 seconds and the unit turns off again. you cannot keep it down for longer? is that normal? does this help anyone to diagnose the issue with it?

    Yes.

You should power off the box. Then hold down the power button for 6-8 seconds, no longer. That should bring up the reset menu.

You can also try this first: turn off the box, remove the power cord for about 15s or so, reconnect the power cord, then hold down the power button for 6-8 seconds.

Also if the box is on you can only hold the button down for 5 seconds and the unit turns off again. you cannot keep it down for longer? is that normal?
Yes, that's how you force a shutdown.

And you should get an orange light rather than a yellow light when entering the recovery mode
