In addition to this gaming news, we at OUYA want to acknowledge that there are two sides to every coin. You’re either a morning person or a night person. (But not both.) Celtics fan or Lakers fan. (Maybe neither.) Horde or Alliance. Superman or Batman. Sith or Jedi. (You see where this is going.)

So, while tons of you were super psyched yesterday to hear that we’d support XBMC, many Plex loyalists clamored for Plex support on OUYA. We think they’ll be happy to hear that OUYA will support Plex. Why not try to please everyone?

This is not a simple process however and XBMC must be built against all of those chipsets, and each needs to be tested for compliance so to say. I wish OUYA the best and PIVOS the best. An A5, A7 single core without a GPU are not going to do this. The Google TV with dual core A7's does this, or the ix86 Atom processor like the older Revues or Sony's and they both have dedicated GPUS. Time will tell man, but you cannot buy a single Android stick that runs XBMC today suitable for $99 or less. The XIOS-DS is no-where near the performance on your Boxee Box which you cherish.
Agreed - we want faultless HD performance, but Ouya specs:

    • Tegra3 quad-core processor
    • 1GB RAM
    • 8GB of internal flash storage
    • HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD
    • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
    • Bluetooth LE 4.0
    • USB 2.0 (one)
    • Wireless controller with standard controls (two analog sticks, d-pad, eight action buttons, a system button), a touchpad
    • Android 4.0
    • ETHERNET

    might just do it.

PLUS - official collaboration with xbmc, TuneIn, game and music streaming sites (hopefully Plex will join)

    Sold. Pre-ordered.

Yeah. I imagine they will sell quite a few units, but last I checked it was like 60k users who pledged 8 Mil. It won't ship for 7+ months anyways, so you have a lot more faith than I do. That being said, I'm happy you are happy and I think OUYA better prove itself come March/April of 2013. If I see any issues at all, it's the lack of the Google Play Store, and using a Tegra since it's notoriously hard for games on Android to get working - unless they are super simple. They might need 7 months just to get games working, and by that time, a new faster processor is out.

Hi neveroffline, as the other XBMC dev who works for Pivos on the Android port and did the actual work bringing up hw video decode, you are very much mistaken I too have worked on ce41xx boxes and the little XIOS DS just plain smokes the boxee box. HW video decode will come to other Android devices, it's not as hard as it you might think it is.

And just in case my nic does not ring a bell, I was the one that was responsible for the port of XBMC to the AppleTV1 and the AppleTV2/iOS and helped with the original Boxee port to the AppleTV1. I'm also the person that brought the Broadcom CrystalHD into the open source world. So I think I know a little bit about porting and hardware video decoders.

The Pivos XIOS DS has replaced all my ATV1s, ATV2 and of course my Boxee Box which died about six months ago. I do keep an ATV2 around for XBMC dev testing but all serious watching has moved to XIOS.

I've never been so happy to be mistaken, thanks davilla and yes I recall your UID. Any job openings? LOL

Did your Boxee Boxes die on the 1.5 update? Mine did. Hoping the new root can restore them.

I'm very pleased with the progress you guys have made. Here is a little plug for OUYA reaching 8.5Million USD on kickstarter....

Only if you define "soon" as seven to eight months... Those that signed up via kickstarter are supposed to get theirs in March 2013; I believe pre-orders will be delivered after that. I'm guessing it will be more like April before the first units ship.

The OUYA won't support +Google Play however, so any games you installed and paid for, or any apps, nope.

Hardware acceleration on Android especially for games or something like XBMC is no easy feat and will take a lot of doing. Having 1 device to focus on should help. Once that is done, there are many other hurdles to get over to get a working/stable version.
actually it wont be that hard to get hardware acceleration when it is for specific devices... simple fact is it just takes time in any development. I would imagine we will see some real headway in the next month or so. I keep up with the entire thing by following the devs involved over at xbmcandroid.com.

While we are talking about awesome devices that run XBMC anyone looking for a replacment for the BBOX... I saw this tonight at XBMCHUB.COM
