Yes, the total silence of being two years earlier with a product that is still superior, and costs half as much, is deafening.

This thing looks neat enough but it is a cell phone core in a ball. It doesn't do local media, watch later, or anything outside of Google Play. Considering that out of the box it is three times the cost and is more limited than an apple tv I can't believe this will take off very fast. The success of this device is going to come from the exploits found by the developer/hacker community (which is apparently actively encouraged by Google). Time will tel, but Google has fallen flat so far with hardware releases and somehow I don't think this will break the streak.

I LOVE my Boxee. The Nexus Q couldn't come close to replacing the Boxee. But the concept of the Nexus Q is intriguing. I mean I kinda see it as a jukebox. And to be able to add songs to the playlist from your phone is pretty cool. Is there really any way to replicate this with the Boxee? Is there an app for the Boxee that comes close to this? Airplay is awesome, but it isn't a playlist. Spotify maybe?

AirPlay plus iPod/Music Player (app) on an iDevice does the same thing... (or any music player on an iDevice that let's you add to or create playlists, for that matter).

Also, one of the third party Music apps for Boxee (SUB-BOX and/or Music Player by bartsidee?) does playlists I believe.

You might be missing the point here. The idea is to allow anyone on your network to modify a single playlist.

I've not tested it, but I think this can be done with Spotify. I've read that you can make "collaborative" playlists that your friends can add and remove songs to. I'll have to test this out.

Tested Spotify... it came close, but I had an issue with using more than one device on my free account and the music didn't continue as more songs were added to the playlist.

This pretty clearly means this is not in direct competition with Boxee and other networked media streamers:

REVIEW: Google's New Video And Music Streaming Device, The Nexus Q, Is A Total Dud

    Using It
With the Nexus Q, the user experience is more about what you can't do than what you can. For example, you can't:
    • Stream music from other services like Spotify or Rdio.
    • Play videos on your Android device that come from outside the Google Play store.
    • Stream video from third-party video services like Netflix, Hulu, or HBO GO.
    • Play your own music files unless you upload them to Google Music first.

I would agree. Though I think it's cool for what it does... allow friends to queue music at a party, like you would with a jukebox. Being that you can queue the music from a mobile is really cool. But as cool as this may be, I will definitely not purchase a Nexus Q. I can't see this product being a big success, as it is.

Spotify on the Boxee comes so close to doing the same thing. For some reason, when you start playing from a playlist, it will not play songs that get added to the playlist, it will stop playing, then you have to scroll down and select the new song that was added. Perhaps this is a bug?

Sounds like the "queue" feature you find on the desktop version of the software is missing from the Boxee app version.
