Default Settings for MKV bluray rips that will have no problems playing on Boxee? Handbrake?

I finally got around to setting up my WHS 2011 (home server) and have started to rip my blurays. I have not quite got the hang of the best way to do this, but currently I am using AnyDVD (mine is expired and older version, probably gonna get the lifetime when it goes back on sale so I can set up My Movies on WHS) to rip to hdd, then adjust them with Handbrake. What settings should I be using? Need ones for 1080p and 720p. I tried using MakeMKV, but the mkv file was too large to play on the boxee. BTW, I am using wired Ethernet 1Gb/s. I have had a few that lock up or studder. Thanks in advance!!!

I have a dumb question: is there any reason to use handbrake other than reducing file size? I'm using makemkv to rip my DVDs, and while the files are large, they seem to work fine on my boxee. If I have plenty of disk space available, should I just leave them alone? Thanks.

If you're not concerned about file size, then makemkv is usually the way to go (and it's very popular around here )

Yes, but with bluray, isn't the file size too big for boxee to process? I seem to remember trying one and got either shuddering and/or buffering issue (can't remember which).

one good reason to use handbrake is to convert the dts to something that wont have dropouts.

I think its the connection to the file as opposed to BB not being able to do it. If you put the file on a USB drive and plug it directly in then it will probably work fine. Other users do have streaming bluray full rips working perfectly over a network but I think BB is a little picky!

From other reports on the forum BB can handle over what the specification for bluray is when it comes to Mbits/s... I believe this is one of the reasons the Intel chip was selected over others at the time.

The Boxee Box appears to work best with linux NAS, with WHS you never really know & seeing as your already on an ethernet network and it still buffers then you don't have a lot of options. Something that's often over looked is the poor quality network switch/hub built into routers, I would consider getting a basic one from D-Link. It might help or might not but it costs very little and there's a chance it may resolve the problem.

I run full bluray rips off my NAS with "nearly" zero problems. My shudder and occaisional buffer issues went away when I changed from SMB to NFS. If you can do it, I recommend the change. My Box is fairly rock solid right now (except for the usual issues of Flash, HD Audio etc).
