Default Why should I stay with Boxee?

    Hi all,

I'm new to the world of Boxee and this forum. I took delivery of my Boxee a couple of weeks ago and I think at this stage I'm at the end of my tether with it. I've been reading here a lot and I've got a lot of help and tips so thanks for that! I also bought the Boxee expecting a number of know issues and was prepared to put up with them. Namely, these are the HD audio bug, my shows not appearing in the 'Shows' folder,

    So for the record, my overriding issues - and the reasons for me considering returning it are;

Music support is lousy - did not expect that. Also causes the machine to crash.

The black screen issue - freezes at any time and in any app, file etc.

I've manually reflashed, reset and still issues remain.

Ultimatly it's a very unreliable device and I suppose I'd like to hear from you guys what makes you persevere with it.

    Thanks,

Well, I don't have issues with my content showing up in the Shows or Movies screen so I'm not sure why you were expecting otherwise there.

Music support has always been lacking, unfortunately. Alternatives for local music include Asset UPnP or the "Music Player" app for better support.

That's not typical. How is your Boxee connected to your TV or AVR system? Which apps specifically?

    Thanks for the response....

When I add shows, from my 'Shows' folder about 5% appear and only appear in the movies section. All my movies are appear correctly. And my content has been aggregated, sorted correctly and 'Embered' with Ember so all the right information is - or so I believe it to be - correct.

Thanks for the tip on music apps. The Boxee slows right down to a crawl when either i stream my own stuff or use Pandora or anothe music app.... after four or five songs played back it usually hangs. The visualisation is a right pain too - I'd love to be able to disable it and I believe this is misusing system resources (a guess on my part).

It's connected to a Marantz SR7005 AVR. It crashes with Navi, Pandora, Vudu and it also crashes when streaming from my Movies or when playing back direct from My Files.

    Using lates firmare to, btw....

Are you using HDMI (only) to the AVR?

This sounds like the media database may have become corrupted.

Between that and all the crashing here's what I would recommend.

    1) Remove all the sources
    2) Go to Settings>>System>>Advanced and use the "clear media info" option
    3) Re-add one local source at a time, letting each one scan/identify completely before adding the next

That should at least help with the TV Shows.

As far as crashing goes, you might want to try a full factory restore (and if so, do it BEFORE re-adding your local sources/content) and update the firmware via USB: http://support.boxee.tv/entries/328058-factory-restore

You shouldn't stay with Boxee. Get out while you still can. Just sold mine on ebay for $130. Built an XBMC for less than $200. I made the right choice. Far better experience.

    Thanks,
    Don't use it for music.
Don't have an audio cable connected anywhere.
    Don't use apps or browser.
Using file browse instead of "Shows" and "Movies".
Running FW 1.2xx which is somewhat stable.
That's how I cope with it...

You shouldn't have to ask people for reasons to stay with a product. If you are not happy with it, then sell it and buy an Xtreamer or something.

Me, I'm very happy with it. It caters for my needs and more. But I don't use HD Audio or Navi-X, and I have a premium spotify account.
