Thread: Boxee - for the birds!

  1. #1

Default Boxee - for the birds!

I was cleaning up my DropBox folders the other day and moved all of the birds files w/o thinking about it. It wasn't until this morning that I realized I'd probably broken a bunch of links from previous posts here on the Boxee Forum. rather than search for and edit my previous posts, I figured it'd probably be better to create a new one (translation: I'm lazy).

Here's my complete collection of birds files for bandwidth testing. Note that I didn't create these files, I've just consolidated the collection from a number of different sources on the net:

Thanks for the heads-up - these files have very useful since you first posted them back in Feb. '11

I edited the original post, replacing the test file links with just one link to a little web page that contains all of the original links plus a few more. This'll allow me to modify the links (or add more) without having to then go back and update all of my posts on the different forums.

There a way to download these files? Upon selection opens VLC.

Depending upon your browser, you should be able to save them by right-clicking on them and selecting "Save Link As..." or something with similar verbiage.

Yep - right click the file/link... and in FF and Chrome it's "Save Link As' -- in IE it's 'Save Target As'

Yes, that works. I saw link I thought URL. The availability of these files today is timely as my Vizio Co-star was delivered to the house just today. I can try these files on the Co-star running the Google Plex app. Not at home so testing will take place this evening sometime.

Please share your results. One of the guys on the AVS forum said that his Vizio got through everything except for the 110 Mbps file with no issues. He said that audio was a different matter, tho; he apparently had trouble with the playback of DTS and DD5.1 audio.

I haven't tested the Boxee Box recently, but I recall it being able to do the 60 or 70 Mbps birds file over ethernet and the 90 or 100 Mbps birds file via USB; more than enough horsepower for even the highest bitrate blu-ray rips.

70mbps bird file is the highest I can get my BB to play without lagging.

This is on a 1GB/s switch connected to a 1.GB/s router via Cat 6e. Yes I know BB only has 100mb/s.

I already had the stuff from previous setup.
