Please release the info to get XBMX on boxee box......
This is not possible...
Thats not the idea of boxee...
German Boxee Support Forum: www.boxee-forum.de
That and ....
* XBMC team have zero interest in Boxee Box.
* Even if you could get XBMC running on it would likely fair no better than Boxee, some of the significant underlying problems are caused by Intels supplied OS.
* The chipset is no longer supported by Intel.
* The only way for XBMC to improve the Boxee Box would be if the accompanying software/drivers were all fully open source with documentation which is not gonna happen as proprietary parts like PowerVR GPU are present in the chipset.
If you want an XBMC box you don't have long to wait Sigma Designs have announced their XBMC hybrids are releasing in July and XBMC itself has been ported to Amlogic 8726 chipsets of which their are a ton of on the market (any Cortex A9 Android TV box is usually an AML8726) and then there is the All Winner A10 (more Android TV boxes) which is also getting an XBMC port.
And don't forget about raspberry pi.
Don't get too caught up in the RPi "hype". It may run XBMC, but the supported video on the hardware on the device is very limited. If it is h264 video @ 1080p 60hz, then you are good. Play a 720p or even a 480p DIVX avi and it all goes pearshaped! Pretty much everything else except composite PAL/NTSC and a few "computer" resolutions need to be decided via software rather than hardware. This is where it becomes clunky as it is underpowered for this sort of work. It's a toy...a very powerful education toy, but still a toy.

Well I just started testing it out and it is not bad, it played most of what i threw at it, which was mostly mkv at 720p and 1080p, avi and xvid at dvd res, not 720, will need to try that.
It is still in the beta stages, so it still locks up once in awhile, but not bad for 35$.
Seriously? You can't even begin to compare the Boxee to a XBMC Raspberry Pi. It's just so wrong, I'm not even going to go into it. Roku, WDTV, Popcorn etc...Yes, but RPi? Come on, get some perspective. What about audio for a start? Like I said, nice toy but....
And $35? Plus power supply, Plus HDMi cable, Plus Box. Plus Remote??. Did it work straight from the box? How much work did you need to do to get XBMC on it? Is your mum or kids going to be able to use it? For all its issues, the Boxee Box is 1000% better. Really, If this is the sort of product you want for your HT needs, Intel have a more suitable board on the way.

mkv is just the container and says little about how the file itself was encoded.
Per gpoly's first post in this thread "...supported video on the hardware on the device is very limited. If it is h264 video @ 1080p 60hz, then you are good", so your files are more than likely h.264 encoded and so play just fine.

$35 for the RPI
$7 for the class 10 sd card
$6 for the HDMI cable
$3 for the micro usb cable
$5 for the cat 5e ethernet cable
Free=xbian image
Free=remote (uses cec)
So for under $60 I have a rig that plays every format I can think of except mpeg2. Plus runs transmission torrent, ftp server, jdownloader...pretty much any ARM compiled software AND plugs into the USB port on my tv and is controlled with my tv's remote through cec. Writing the image tool 140 seconds using win32image writer.
Yes my mother can use it nicely too.
Oh and being open source my upgrade path is more secure than boxee. I have both and now I use my boxee to stream content the rpi downloaded.
