Thread: Boxee taking 4 days to scan my NAS

Default Boxee taking 4 days to scan my NAS

I bought a boxee Sunday and have set up my files sources as my video and music on my NAS. I can browse to them no problem but the actualy scan of the drives never ends. Should it be 4 days?

Whenever I go to move or shows on the home menu it says I have no sources and to browse but then the "my sources" items just say waiting to scan and nothing happens. I've tried this on a wifi network and ethernet connected.

Heck I can even get to the files through the file browser. any thoughts?

It's quite possible the media database has become corrupted somehow. Do this:

    1) remove all the sources
    2) go to Settings>System>>Advanced and select the clear media info option
    3) add one source at a time, letting each source get completely scanned and identified before adding the next

    and SMB.

How are you connected to the Boxee?

    uPnP is broken.
    NFS may work well.
SMB also works <some limitation on bitrate...although I've been able to play all 1:1 BD rips>

Only for scanning. I'm able to browse and play via upnp just fine...

Slightly off-topic, is this a branded NAS? I'm looking for a NAS to backup all my files.

Oh no, at least not with the Synology. I stream regularly at 30+mbps. NFS, oddly enough, is not up to the task with this combination. Use SMB.

Test both. While streaming, hit 'i' on the boxee remote and observe the video queue (vq), you'll notice that SMB has it nearly at 99% continuously, whereas NFS is constantly exhausting the cache and rebuffering.

Interesting, I've had the exact opposite experience. SMB is the only protocol which reliably streams high bitrate content for me, as evident by observing the vq percentage during playback.
