Is Boxee Compatible with Windows 7? with Vista?

Is the Boxee compatible with Windows 7? Is it compatible with Windows Vista?

Are there any special requirements which are needed?

yes and yes. But it is unsupported now so your only help is going to be from kind souls on these forums.

The only requirement is to install the flash plugin.

You'll also need patience because both the 0.9 and 1.5 versions have their problems.

Hi mate, my OS right now is Windows 7 Home so my question was the same as his..
I dont really understand what you mean saying "yes but it is unsupported now"..
Could you please explain it to me..? If you would be kind, a little info on Boxee would do as well..
Im still new here and Im still trying to learn how all works..

OK, boxee is just a media player, with cataloging abilities and a nice UI. it contains all the codecs under the sun inside its guts, so you dont need to install anything much to be able to play media using it.

it DOES need flash player to be installed in order to watch flash content via its web apps.

when you install boxee, you just point it to where your local media is saved and boxee will look at the file names and try to work out what the file is. it will then download lots of info from the web about that file and make a cool database which is searchable.

by unsupported, i mean if there is a bug you spot in boxee (in any PC version) then boxee wont help to fix it. you're stuck with any bugs in the released versions.

you should be able to find a link to the boxee for windows 1.5 OR 0.9 builds somewhere on this forum.

I use 0.9 (on windows 7 32 bit) because i find it to be more stable and i prefer the UI.

The last release before boxee pulled the plug was 1.5

Boxee also has an "apps" section where some developers have made nice little interfaces to access their web content.

Navi X is a huge app (find more on this forum) which catalogues oodles of online illegal video for consumption.

Thank you for your kind reply. What types of problems are you referring to with these versions? Do you feel they are still worth using?

A flash plug in is required for both windows versions, I am assuming this to be true.

Just download one or the other version already and try it out; we can answer questions all day but until you actually use the software, there's not much point.

i use 0.9 every day. still very much the most family friendly media player for the pc around today, imo.

the 1.5 has more search options but i found it to be too buggy. other prefer.

try it.

the project is based on XBMC which is stil very much alive and well, you could try this, but judging from your posts so far, i'd probably say boxee is a better bet.

I will recommend you to use 0.9 too. It's the best version for windows 7.
