    Default SMB Directory Scanning

I did try searching for this - sorry if it has been answered elsewhere. :0

I've been fighting with my boxee box all afternoon. I managed to get the network setup, and can add local directories via SMB. That's good. However, I cannot get them to add into the "Movies" category - they are only visible under the files section. Reading around on the forums it sounds as though it IS possible to do this. I keep scaning the directory and it returns 0. Am I missing something completely obvious?

    Thanks for any help!

PS I did try hard reset but didn't seem to help.

First, be patient. Scanning and identifying can take a while. Go into settings-file sources to see if it's scanning and/or identifying. Second, on that file sources screen, does it say you have any unidentified files? If so, you probably want to use nfo files.

Thanks but it is completing the scan and saying it found 0 files. Also I do use nfo files for all my movies.

I show no unidentified files, because it basically sees nothing. But I know it can 'see' them in a way because they show in the files section and I can even play them. :-\

sounds like the Box's media database is corrupted. Go to Setting>>System>>Advanced and select the "clear media info" option. Then try removing and re-adding each source, one at a time (let one complete scanning/identifying before adding the next).

Thanks for your reply darcilicious. Before I read your answer I tried a hard reset one more time and it seems to be identifying now! Ah well...

By the way, after a "reset" scanning should take place about 3 minutes later.

One of the Boxee developers posted so in one of my bug reports at http://jira.boxee.tv/secure/Dashboard.jspa . Good luck finding it, seeing how many reports I've done. Ugh!

Anyways, the scanning not taking place until 3 minutes has lapsed after booting up your Boxee Box is normal, just for your info.
