True but that can be addressed with an IR receiver dongle (like the one that user twistybox sellsI have Harmony One remote and it does not support the Boxee Box because it uses IR and BB does not.) I just don't recall which functions it supports offhand (power off but not power on, I think).

Even with the best IR receiver you can get, there is extremely limited IR support for the Boxee Box.
If using apps such as the Sling Player app which make use of a lot of buttons on the back of the Boxee remote (buttons like the spacebar, etc), you are basically screwed.
Boxee had an opportunity to fix all of this, as the work was done for them, but they passed on it and decided to make this difficult. They want you to use the Boxee remote.
