Thread: When will the shutdown bug be fixed? Is my Boxee being damaged?

I have been in contact with someone named Joe in Boxee support

I asked when they will have a fix for this problem. His response...

Joe, May 11 02:30 pm (EDT):

    Hi,

Until we can get a fix developed I recommend holding down the top power button until the box shuts off.

He then suggested the same old reset semi-solution [which hasn't worked for me yet]

Joe, May 11 10:35 am (EDT):

    Hi Jeff,

Sorry for the trouble. We are continuing to work on this problem. The steps below fix it in some cases.

Please power down Boxee, then press down the power button for 6-8 seconds and release (the Boxee icon on the box should turn to yellow/orange). You are now in recovery mode. Please select the "Reset All Settings" option.

    Thanks,
    Joe

Apparently, they're working on it, but he didn't offer any information on when they might have a fix...

This problem sucks. I am really worried about corrupting external media so now I just use my Boxee for Netflix...

Well, I realize they wouldn't put an exact date, but I would have liked a 'soon' or 'shortly' response at least to confirm that they are close to fixing it. Honestly, I don't see what is so hard about this. It obviously came in the last update. Just figure out which part of the update caused that, release a patch that strips the offending code then work on fixing the original update and re-releasing it. But, my over simplification is probably why I am not a programmer...

For that level of detail, find the JIRA issue and "follow" it -- when it's marked fixed there then you know it will be (more than likely) included in the next firmware update.

It's unlikely that you will get more info than that.

i just recently notice that when you turn on the boxee and don't play any video, you will experience the shutdown problem.
so everytime i use boxeebox, i always make sure to play any video atleast 5 sec.

You can always eject the drive in the File Manager if you are really worried about it.

    Running Boxee Box firmware: 1.5.1.23735
