Last time I shut down I logged out before shutting down and it shut down right away.

    Funny you should say that.

I've never had the shutdown problem before - until yesterday.

I haven't touched anything (and actually rarely used the box in the past weeks - now more frewuently to watch the IIHF hockey world championship) - and now it doesn't shut down from the remote.

I am having the same issue. I attempted the full blown reset and experienced an undesirable result [http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=61952] After all was said and done, I re-set up my Boxee from scratch and it still hangs on shutdown. I too am VERY concerned with corrupting an external drive because I have several 1Tb drives loaded with programs.

I will try the "log out first, then shutdown" suggestion mentioned above tonite and post the results.

the log out thing doesn't work for me. I am only able to shut down if I go to the Home Menu and wait 30 secs or so for all the videos on the bottom to load(even the off screen ones). It will shut down from there but this is getting ridiculous. Can't turn the box off, can't watch anything with the new flash, can't watch any live streaming RTMP stuff....grr.
Why did I waste nearly $200 on this thing?

I tried the 'letting the home page completely load' then log off, THEN shut down last night. Same story... Black screen and Boxee logo glaring bright indefinitely...
This is very worrisome. I only use my Boxee as a media player to hook to my HD projector for outdoor movies, or to use Netflix before I go to bed. The Netflix part doesn't worry me so much except that I have to get out of bed, walk across the romm and force quit the Boxee. It's the hooking up my media hard drives then not being able to shut down that is bad. I don't want my drives corrupted because of this. Is there a way to unmount a drive within the Boxee OS so that I could safely unplug it prior to the shutdown/hang error?

Does anyone have an idea when this might be fixed?

No, I haven't hooked a hard drive up since I read about this issue possibly corrupting external media. I only watched Netflix.

I suggest streaming your HD from your computer to boxee over SMB... this way if you have to turn it off, you won't have to worry about file integrity issues.

A lot of us are having this same shutdown issue, you don't need to return your Boxee.
