Thread: HMA! Pro VPN or Unblock Us

Default HMA! Pro VPN or Unblock Us

Hello one and all. I am presently trying out both the HidemyAss Pro VPN and also the Unblock Us and really cannot see any difference between the two. It appears to me that the only difference is the price and that is HMA is more than twice the price of Unblock Us.

Now can anyone tell me that there is a difference and what that might be. I am trying to view both UK and American video/tv. With the HMA Vpn you must change Country or IP address to watch Uk stuff and then change again to watch American stuff. With the Unblock Us software that is not at all necesary. Am my missing something here and if so can someone please explain and set me straight.

    Thanks,
    Tommy

IMO Unblock-us is best as it's less expensive than VPN and more reliable Also you get the comfort of not switching between different VPN servers.

I guess what I am trying to find out is does Unblock-Us do everything that the VPN does and give you the same access to everything that a VPN would give you. Also if that is the case then why would anyone pay the extra money for a VPN if Unblock-us will do the exact same thing?

Oh and BTW, thank you for your response,

So what you are saying then darcilicious is that Unblock-us will do everything that a VPN will do and give me video and tv access that HMA does but for half the price....lol, correct?

I concur, unblock US is the best. I love proxpn but considering the cost and the flexibility of unblockus it is hands down the best.

Whilst I'm not entirely certain what HMA does, unblock-us is NOT a full VPN, its a sort of discount system, which works by replacing your DNS servers, and return 'fake' addresses for specifically chosen sites.

Normally if you enter the symbolic address say for BBC, your computer talks to your ISP's DNS, to find the IP address of the BBC computer (you could call it it's phone number), once it gets it it connects to it. The BBC can see where you are coming from and if its outside the UK it might deny you access.

When you use unblock-us, you replace the DNS addreses from your ISPs DNS with the ones run by Unblock-us.

So now when you enter the address of the BBC computer, unblock us intercepts that, and instead of giving you the real IP address of the BBC computer they return an IP address for one of their computers. That computer then routes through a computer in the UK - so now the BBC computer sees another UK computer and is fine with that.

If all you want is access to the Uk computer then ublock is fine.

But what if you want access to a computer that Unblock-us does not have in its list? Well then they won't replace anything and just give you the real address. ie, the remote machine sees who you are.

If you use a full VPN, ALL connections to anywhere are routed through the remote computer.

So you need to know what you need - if unblock supports the sites you want to visit and you don't plan on visiting any other sites, then you are fine.

Here's a list of supported and unsupported sites: http://support.unblock-us.com/custom...upported-sites Note, most unsupported sites have other limitations that VPN wouldn't work around anyhow.

Got update with warp around menus?
P.S. What are warp around menus? ;-) Wouldn't teleport menus be better? ;-)
