    Default Long distance run around....

Does anyone know how far away from my router Boxee can be and still maintain a wireless connection ? My router is in my basement and I wanna use Boxee in my pool bar this summer. Distance would be around 25-30 feet.

    Cheers !

What's the signal strength to the pool bar ?

I believe the Boxee Box is only a G connection and not N. If you do run into problems with signal strength, I suppose you could use a wireless range extender.

The Boxee Box handles wireless N at 2.4 Ghz.

If it didn't then I would have never been able to connect it to my network since I only have my APs setup for Wireless N at 2.4Ghz. I don't have any of them setup for 5Ghz n or a or wireless b or g any more.

Hmm, maybe I am confused about it not being gigabit then. Anyways it's good to know that it's wireless N and not G!

Wireless-N isn't gigabit either but it's still better than wireless-G. The Box has a 100mb ethernet connection (which some people find disappointing).

I found it disappointing right up till the point when I pulled my head out of my backside and found out that 100/Mbit is more than enough - even for Blu-ray files. As for the OP question, you will have to suck it and see, the problem with wireless is that the higher the frequency the shorter the range, and the boxee uses internal antennas, so factors like what the building (where your wireless access point is) is made of matters a lot as brick will reflect more signal than wood. Also f its much lower than your boxee will also make a difference. As basement_lurker says - you may need to use a wireless range extender, I seem to remember something about them halving your speed, but I'm not sure.
Boxee is a good product - stop bashing it.
If we all include our setup we could all help each other better

    Exactly so.

I don't agree with you. It is probably fine for streaming, but I copy new files I want to see to a USB drive attached to the Boxee Box and for that purpose I would have liked to have had a gigabit ethernet connection.

So yes, for streaming it's more than enough (though higher bandwidths don't detract from this), but for transferring files I'd take gigabit any time.
