Question Boxee Box cannot scan movies on Synology (anymore)

    Hi,

After palying around with my Synology DS210+ (firmware 4.0), my Boxee Box cannot scan the movies I have on my NAS anymore. However, I can browse the movie list on my BB under "Files" and play them from here, but I want my BB to categorize my movies under "Movies".

The files are labelled "inactive" and with the text "waiting to be scanned" (or whatever, my BB is set to Danish)...

Strangely the external HDD I have connected to my BB, can be scanned with out a problem.

Could you help me solve this problem?

    Thanks.

Please remove and re-add your file sources from NAS and make sure the shares are shared to everyone on your local network. What protocol are you using to access these files i.e. SMB/NFS/UPnP ??

I have removed and re-added the file source multiple times from my BB, and it doesn't work. How do I do it on my NAS?

I am pretty sure I share with everyone (how do I check it)?

    I use SMB.

    Sorry for being a n00b.

    Thanks.

( " How do I do it on my NAS? " ) -- I assume you mean 'remove/re-add' - don't do this on your NAS

( " I am pretty sure I share with everyone (how do I check it)? " ) -- right click your shared folder(s), choose 'Properties' and check the 'Sharing & Security' tabs and be sure the folder(s) are set to everyone

And maybe for good measure, try a power cycle of your BBox/NAS/Network Devices

I have tried that. There is a square in “Read Only” (I think, in Danish it is “Skrivebeskyttet” [directly translated: “protected from writing”]), and every time I remove it, it comes back. However, there is a similar “squares” by the folders on the folders on my external HDD connected to my NAS – and these folders are scanned by BB without any problems.

Also I should point out that I can browse and play the movies on my NAS (that cannot be scanned/indexed by BB) via “Files” on my BB. But I cannot make them appear under “My movies” (or “My Shows” for that matter).

I have turned off my BB, NAS and router, but it doesn’t seem to help.

Try reset all settings in recovery console, which will erase any settings/data and will build everything from scratch .

Doing this will only work if the problem is related to the Boxee Box. Do you think it is? I had the idea that the problem was the NAS (but to be honest I have no idea)...

Most likely the problem is with BoxeeBox, since you can play files from the source and BB can't scan them . It could be a result of corrupt local database ! Give it a shot which might work .

I'd also be a little reluctant to erase settings and restart... have you tried identifying one of the movie files as you browse? If identifying one of them doesn't make it show in the movies section, then you can be pretty sure there's an issue writing to the internal Boxee database.

    jasmeet:
About the "shared with everyone" thing, was that supposed to be done under Windows or under the DSM software on the NAS? The properties of a folder under DSM doesn't have a ""Sharing & Security" tab, so it seems like you may be instruction them to change permissions under Windows. Windows settings wouldn't have any affect on the files shares from the DiskStation.

    KeWa:
Unfortunately, I don't recall exactly what settings (if any) I had to change on my DS to get things working, but I'd imagine that any issues would be in one of the apps under the "File Sharing and Privileges" section of the control panel.
Just for good measure, go into the properties of the main "video" share folder and under the "Privileges Setup" tab, check that guest has read only access.
If you have another video folder on the DS (maybe tv series?) that is scanning properly, you could also compare the properties of each of the folders to see if anything's different.
Another thing that may possibly help is to update the firmware in both devices...
