How to view my media on Boxee Box?

I bought a Boxee Box today thinking it could replace my PS3 as my primary home media server. i hooked up the power cord, HDMI, and LAN cable. i went through the basic set up and got to the main menu. this is where the problems started. I installed the Boxee software on my computer and loaded a movie into it. i then figured it would be able to be view on the box. no luck. when i go to Boxee media manager on the box it shows nothing in there. when i access my UPnP PS3 media server it loads some of my folders but it takes a long time and has no art or info. i have heard great things about this thing but so far i have been unable to load my movies or TV shows onto it. anytime i click movies or shows it says "no local media yet". i have no interest in hooking the HDDs directly to the box. i am trying to figure out a way to stream to the box through my computer. any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, you need to make sure that you have set up the folders on your PC to be shared. This can vary somewhat depending on which version of Windows you're using. If you haven't done this before, I would search Google on:

Once you have shared folders, here is how to add media sources to the Boxee Box:

I recommend starting with SMB if your media files are on a Windows system (you don't need the Boxee Media Manager aka BMM). I strongly discourage using UPnP at all.

Once you've added a source to Boxee, it will scan and try to identify each video file based on the filename of video file so they need to follow the proper filename format:

Alternatively, you can go to Files from the Home Screen and browse your network for SMB folders.
