Thread: Will a Broadcom HD card screw up ATV1's ability to work properly?

Default Will a Broadcom HD card screw up ATV1's ability to work properly?

Many in the XMBC Forum advocate the installation of a Broadcom card in the ATV1 to allow 1080P viewing, but they also say they get fewer crashes. Any truth to this and the bigger question is will Boxee function 100% with the Broadcom mod?

Right now I'm using XMBC Eden and no Boxee... kind of miss it and maybe I'll build up the nerve to do the manual install. But I'm getting by with XMBC ok.

I have also heard there's another alternative called Plex? Will this work on ATV1's? Anyone with experience on this combo?

    Thanks...

Wont interfere with Boxee as it doesnt access the driver. You have to install the driver via SSH, download and install from Downloads, and turn it on within Eden. Boxee ignores the card and uses what it always uses. Im using my card both with OSX on my atv and crystalbuntu from a USB drive (Im waiting for CB 2.0 before I convert the HD as the re-install method for OSX makes me nervous).

Plex client on the ATV requires you have a server somewhere running your streams, files etc.

Great idea ! Its dead easy to put the card in, but remember the wifi card will be gone, so you will need an ethernet cable. Let me know when you do it so I can help out.
