Thread: Are there Universal Remotes that work with Boxee Box?

Default Are there Universal Remotes that work with Boxee Box?

I bought a new TV about 3 or 4 months ago, and I really love the remote. It's from a Sony NSX-40GT1 (40 inch LED 1080p Google TV), and the remote is shaped similar to a game controller, with two trigger buttons, a full qwerty keyboard, and a mouse. I love the remote, but it's not universal (other than DVD/BR devices). I was thinking about buying a nice remote that can control my television and Boxee Box. Does anyone know of any Universal Remotes out there that work with Boxee Box and have a full querty keyboard as well as a mouse (or something comparable)

Every universal remote can work with Boxee as long as you have an appropriate USB IR receiver connected.
Manta TR1 IR Receiver for Boxee and HTPC - Use your Universal Remote with Boxee Box or XBMC HTPC, including Raspberry Pi
Also for Windows, Linux & Mac OS X: Windows Media Center, SageTV, JRiver Media Center, MediaPortal, XBMC, Plex, MythTV, etc.

I ended up purchasing an OrientEX Rii Mini I6 2.4G Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad and IR Remote after my kids dropped it and buttons flew everywhere. Its great for my needs and the IR part i configured for TV vol up and down, mute, input, menu and d pad. No complaints yet.

I use my harmony with the Mantra TR1- mentioned in twistybox's signature and it works great. I don't use a keypad often so I don't mind having a second remote just for typing but there are a ton of options out there.

This one sounds pretty good, especially in the $30 price range. I mainly would just want the IR part to turn up/down volume and maybe turn on/off the tv. does it work well with boxee? is it like the original boxee box remote while going through the boxee menus?

Does the Mantra TR1 allow you turn the Boxee OFF and ON or just Off ? Thought I read that once but wasn't sure if that is true or not...

    Thanks

Unfortunately, no. Only the Boxee Box remote can turn on the Box and the only way to turn off the Box regardless of the remote is through the UI or by using the power button on the Box itself.

If you're using an IR remote you don't need to go through the UI to turn Boxee off. A single button press of the "POWER" button code and the Boxee Box will immediately shut down. Of course if you hit that button accidentally, you're going to need to go for the original remote or get up to go press the power button on the box to turn it on.

Thanks for the reply. Using the UI to shut it down is no biggie at all as long as I don't have to actually walk over to the actual boxee box (Sounding extremely lazy, but that is not it at all) BB is just located where its a real pain in the butt getting too.(12 feet high over 120 inch screen)

Thanks will be ordering mine this weekend.

    Thanks
