    Default Boxee Box and Scraping

New here, first post, so be gentle LOL. Anyway, I know it's possible to name your files movie.title.extension and Boxee Box will scrape and store the metadata from IMDB. My question is this, do I leave the movies in the 'files' area, or do I have to do something different? I'm sure the answer is around here somewhere on the forum and I'm just not wording my search criteria correctly.

    Thanks
    -HJ

"Files" area is always there. Other wise known as "sources".

You simply go into either Files or in Settings > File Sources and add a new source.

Either way they are always under "Files".

In sources you can either turn on scanning options or set "Type Of Scanning" to "Never" and manually identify everything via "Files".

    Is that what you mean?

Right, I understand they always stay in "Files" because it's data stored on an external HDD. I guess what I'm saying is that I think I need to add the external HDD to my list of sources, and then turn on scanning, in settings under sources. Sorry, I'm at work right now so not in front of the Box and my terminology may not be correct.

Yes, Boxee will only scan and identify items you add under Settings>>File Sources. More info here:

Cool, that's the information I was looking for, and just as I figured, I wasn't searching for the right phrase. Should have been looking for media manager. So, last question, I've read on here that the correct naming convention is movie.title.extension, and adding the year always helps too. But I've also read that you can just leave it at movie title.extension and the scraper will pick it up that way too. Is that correct?

I think you mean media library not media manager (which is something else again).

I recommend including the year when pssibble since movie title can be recycled by Hollywood with alarming frequency

And the rest of that site will probably answer 99% of your setup / first time use questions.
