Default D-Link abandon Boxee Box for their own box

    D-LINK MovieNite™ streaming media player (DSM-310)

Connectivity comes courtesy of 802.11n WiFi and a 10/100 Ethernet port, and plugs into your TV via HDMI 1.4 or composite video connections. You can control the thing with the included remote or via your handset with the free MovieNite remote app for Android or iOS. At 4.8 x 4.6 x 1.1 inches in size, it's a bit bigger than the offerings from Apple and Roku, but its $59.99 list price provides a cheaper avenue to 1080p content than either. It's available now exclusively at Walmart, and is currently a bargain at $48 online, though your in-store mileage may vary.

More information about MovieNite is available online at http://www.dlink.com/DSM-310

How is that abandoning the Boxee Box? It doesn't come anywhere close to what the BB offers and at only $60 it's aimed at the low end of media players. And it has to be cheap because eventhe Roku2 is a better value . Since it offers more streaming providers.

You beat me to this! I doubt this means they're abandoning anything - this is a completely different solution, especially at 1/4th the price. Would be good to get an update though from D-Link or Boxee though.

Agreed...the model number should tell all - DSM-310 vs. DSM-380 for the Boxee Box.

Why would Boxee need to even address this? Just looking at the product info page makes it obvious that this device is aimed directly at the "Joe Six Pack" Walmart customer. Someone who may not be technologically inclined and looking for something cheap that will allow them to stream Netflix to their TV.
