Default avi okay; mp4 and mkv nokay

    very boxee newbie here.

loaded up boxee on a fresh Win7 and boxee plays my local avi files (xvid) just fine but playing mp4 or mkv files display as this sort of blur of macro blocks dancing all over the place (the audio is fine, though).

In plain windows (media player); everything plays ok.

    any ideas?

    See if
Settings>>Media>>Advanced and uncheck "enable hardware assistence decoding when possible"

    Helps.

If not, post your hardware specs such CPU and GPU/graphics chip.
