    Default Lock-ups are FREQUENT!!!

My boxee box needs to be manually restarted just about everyday. It locks up, and won't respond to the remote or display a picture. I have to hold the power button down, till it shuts off, then turn it back on. This is VERY annoying. It seemed to have happened a few "updates" ago.

Boxee, please institute some quality control before releasing updates. This is a set top box. People expect it to just work. Instead it feels just about as unreliable as a windows machine.

But a windows machine is extremely reliable. At least the many dozens I've purchased or built have been.
    Boxee Box 1, 2 & 3(Boxee+ v1.4.6), PCs(v1.5.0.23596) Boxee TV(v2.1.0.7781)
    Server 1: HP MSS WHS (56TB) (NFS/SMB)
    Server 2: unRAID (32TB) (NFS/SMB)
    Server 3: unRAID (27TB) (NFS/SMB)
Server 4: TiVo Desktop (6TB RAID 5) (SMB)
    NAS 1: Intel SS4200-E (4TB RAID 5) (NFS/SMB)
    NAS 2: Dlink DNS-321 (1TB RAID 1) (SMB)

I'm assuming you have your scanning set to hourly? Mine locks up daily if I do that.

Are you connected wirelessly to your network ?

I have seen my box lock up frequently when my internet was down or my connection was wonky.

If you are connected wireless and your signal isn't strong then that could be the culprit.

In support of the initial poster, I have to agree that the stability of my Boxee Box has gone to hell since the 1.5 series of updates. I too am finding myself powering down the box (manually) every other day or so to be able to either reconnect to a network share or run specific applications - more often than not YouTube for the kids. It will also regularly just hang seemingly becoming unresponsive but if I hit 'back' on the remote within 10-15 seconds I'll be presented the option to exit out of the application I'm in.

I don't scan my files hourly and I'm hard wired to my network. No issues with connectivity.

From my perspective, either there's an issue with a component in the box - starting to degrade over time (I've had it for about 14 months now) or this is due to bugs that were introduced in 1.5.

I wanted desperately to buy the LiveTV adapter but I've decided to wait. I don't want to invest more money in this solution if it's stability continues as it has for me lately.

I started having lock ups recently as well. My fix was to delete a .zip file that was in my media directory. This fixed the problem for me. Seems boxee could not handle a .zip in my media directory and was geting hung up everytime it ran a scan, which is setup for hourly. Now my boxee goes to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity and is easily woken up by a press of the button on the remote.

I've seen lockups on youtube and the pandora app, but I don't use them that often so I can't say if they've gotten worse. Seems the separately developed apps are the hangers, not so much general boxee operation.

Most of my viewing is off my own NAS.

I can say that boxee's wireless is very low bandwidth and not reasonable if you are going to be doing real HD content. It couldn't keep up with blueray rips. So, wireless is a poor connectivity (single radio, I think limited to 55mbps-20 mbps throughput). When internet is lost, particularly the first time the whole thing would hang for a short while. I was operating out of a RV with a mobile hotspot supplying the whole RV network with internet and the drops of signal would hangup boxee until it got past the timeouts.

I have too many files to scan hourly. Hours after a Re-Scan is started it still shows 'identifying". I'm daily right now because I'm re-organizing, but I'll probably set to weekly soon. I haven't experienced more lockups with daily scanning. Previously I had it scan never--doing manual requests.
