    Question Rss?

I'm trying to setup and RSS Video feed (avi files) as an added source and I have some questions...

I tried searching the forums but you don't allow searching of 3 letter words (RSS) (Might want to adjust the search option to allow it)

How often does Boxee poll the RSS feed?

Where are the files downloaded to AND can I specify a different directory than the default download directory?

I know the software is still Alpha, but the Wiki could really use some work on at least these basic options.

use the rss:// protocol instead of http://

Some of the feeds I need to access can only be accessed via http.

    No... rss:// uses http://

What he's referring to is Sources.xml... If you look at the default one, you'll see how RSS URLs are saved. rss:// is only a valid protocol in Boxee.

rss:// is used as appose to http:// in sources.xml so Boxee knows to treat what it resolves as an xml/rss stream. As another example: shoutCAST uses shout://.

Check you your ~/<BOXEE-DIRECTORY>/UserData/profiles/[USERNAME]/sources.xml file for a better idea.

I understand the difference between Really Simple Syndication and the Hypertext Transfer Protocol.

The feeds I am trying to access are dynamically generated from data located in a mySQL database by date requested, season, and such... I access it via http and the browser / reader is redirected to the correct rss feed for that specific feed request. The rss feed changes daily and is not static.

I'll just see if I can write an automator script to access the database and write the rss feed link into the sources.xml on a daily bases and overwrite the rss feed link that was generated from the day before so I don't end up with a bunch of rss feeds that I only need to access one time.

Sorry for the confusion, I wasn't correcting anyone, just trying to clarify initial response.

I think this should cover all your questions.
    1. Boxee refreshes the feed when you click on it a source.
    2. Boxee doesn't download anything from the feed--by default, or via setting--ever. It only streams that content.
    3. Boxee will download torrents, on a pre-request basis. In such a case, it saves them to: ~/.boxee/downloads
    4. You can chane the default download save dir in: ~/.boxee/UserData/rtorrent.rc.linux... Look for the "on_finished" line.

    Hope this helps some.
