I feel that manually adding titles is sorely needed. Especially for movies or video that just doesn't match any of the web databases. I'm not talking about titles not existing but titles not recorded in the given sequence and therefore are not going to be recognized.
This kind of option could be applied to things like Series without the need to have to modify the TVDB.org reference. Considering the fact that new content is added to new releases all the time. Things like Specials/Features One DVD may have them while the other does not!
My copy of Star Trek has 2 different version of the episode "The Cage" so in order to add it I have to go to TVDB.org to add it but not all users are going to be so savvy. For those that don't want to deal with this kind of stuff you should at least give them a standard option that they can deal with that's quick and easy...
I understand that doing this would effect the social sharing aspect of Boxee. But maybe Manually added videos to Series and such with some sort of a description could be enough to give everyone an Idea of what the user is watching...
Currently I have about 20 videos that I either have to re-record or manually add to TVDB.org before seeing them in my listing. That is of course unless I just browse to the directory.
Like I said it would be nice to create some sort of an association for videos that are part of a Series/collection.
