    Default Reset

I also had this problem with the latest firmware. Try doing a factory reset. It solved the problem for me.

This is a pretty common complaint now. Maybe somebody can point you to some relevant threads/comments, I seem to recall something about the box communicating with the Boxee server and causing a slow shut down. My Boxee only failed occasionally to shut down normally, even then it was just slow to turn off. Now it happens more than 50% of the time. It was a couple of weeks after the latest update that it started doing this.

Yeah it happens to me too. I find just holding down the power button for 6 second still works fine and doesn't seem to fubar my boxee box.

You would think Team Boxee would just update their power off instructions from press the button to hold the button.

Mine was fixed. What you need to do is FIRST go to "home page", and then turn it off from homepage.

It may be because your Boxee is stuck scanning one of the shared folders on your network. (That's caused a problem for me in the past.)

I discussed a way to troubleshoot it here:
    http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.ph...386#post266386
Boxee Box (hardware revision A2) running firmware v1.5.1.23735
Connected to my Ethernet network via a D-Link DES-1105 (10/100Mbps Switch)
Local media shared via SMB from an ancient Buffalo TeraStation HD-H2.0TGL/R5 running OpenTera
Optoma HD71 Projector and a 120" eBay screen
Logitech HarmonyŽ One Advanced Universal Remote and the IR receiver from this Windows remote

Default Problem still here with latest firmware.

OK. I am still having the shut down issue. Hard power down by boxee box button is the only way to turn off the boxee. What I have done trying to resolve the issue:

    1. cleared all cache, data folder scans, media info, shares, etc... still has problem.
    2. Factory Restore via recovery mode: Yay it shuts down properly now! Ok lets do firmware updates.
Update to latest firmware as of 5-2-12. Unit refuses to shut down again.
    3. Factory Restore via recovery mode, and USB manual firmware installation using latest firmware.
    Still broken after update.

(all shutdowns were attempted from the home screen.)

This is in no way related to any type of sharing "cooldowns" since I was running absolutely stock, and connected via wired LAN. It has nothing to do with shared media since no shares were setup. It is not related to corrupted data since using the original firmware that came with the boxee solves the issue. (this also rules out hardware issues.) This is simply a firmware failure that needs to be recognized and addressed by the amazing boxee team of gurus! I say this with utmost hope and faith that my once simple, powerful, and amazing boxee box will once again attain godlike streaming capability, without forcing me to climb my wall to where it is mounted every time i want to turn it off.

I would use the original firmware, but it does not detect the wifi encryption I have enabled throughout my home.

EDIT: I have found that disabling all internet connectivity in the boxee box settings fixes the shutdown issue. I hope I find some information on this eventually.

[How To] resolve the Turning Off Issue!
I've been experiencing it after the 1.5 update in January.
It's been a week that I don't have this annoying issue any more and that's what I'm doing:

    - First go to "Home" menu
    - wait till all 12 Video-Clips show up
    - then turn off the boxee box from the pop-up menu [choose options slowly]

[ If you're scanning, make sure to set it to "Once" ]

I hope this work-around helps out others as well!
