Audio help for mac mini

I am kinda new to this but what is the best way to get audio from the mac mini to my stereo receiver for best sound so I can get 5.1 sound when i watch my dvds?

The mac mini's audio output is a combo optical/headphone output so you should be able to run an optical digital S/PDIF cable out of it to your receiver to get 5.1 surround sound. That is, as long as your receiver has the proper inputs.
