The Boxee Box is a beta product at best. If you're comfortable with that then it's a good little toy to have, but just remember that there are fundamental issues with it that the dev team doesn't seem too interested in fixing.

I have had my box over a year and most of the time I tolerated any problems as long as it worked with local media which it did most of the time, but when the flash problems started and didn't get fixed even tho not the fault of boxee team I started losing faith in the box so decided to get Apple tv 2 which I jailbreaked and put XBMC. I use this in the bedroom it plays all demand channels as well as lots of other stuff like navi-x, ice films and 1channel, it's been completely stable and now the Apple tv 3 is launched and with full 1080 and hopefully won't be too long till it's jailbreaked this will be the best option for a media player and at £99 is cheap compared to boxee box.

Has not been shipped yet (1 to 2 week ship date on apple website), has not been jailbroken yet (IOS 5.x). It will take a while before anyone announces anything about this product yet.

The only problem I'VE encountered was with Boxee for Windows v1.5 which didn't display video correctly. Went back to v0.9 then bought a BoxeeBox. No server side software means I can get rid of a Windows media centre PC and my server computer. Just a BoxeeBox and a NAS. Brilliant!

Considering the new 1080p capability of the Apple TV and its price (99$), what are the arguments for the D Link Boxee ? If, of course, the Apple TV is jailbroken with Boxee installed.

I was going to buy the D Link but now with the new Apple TV I am hesitating. Does Boxee makes the ATV capable of reading .mkv or other audio/video formats ? What are the ATV main restrictions ?

    Thanks !

You should read/post about this in the Apple TV forum section -- I don't know for certain but I doubt that it will be easy (or even possible) to install the latest version of Boxee software on the newer versions of ATV (I don't think it ever made it onto ATV2, for example).

    EDIT: see http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.ph...352#post252352
